I've tried to search the site, but I didn't come up with anything, so I'll just ask.

I just installed a new 2-way t-trax LSD in my s13 and it's popping A LOT when I go around corners without the clutch being pressed in. I was just wondering if anyone has put one in there car and run into the same issue. If so, did it eventually subside?

Also, I'm using a generic LSD oil for the break in period and will change to the Tomei stuff afterwards. Might that be the problem?

Thanks!

If it's anything like the Kaaz that I have, they only like a few oils. I've found online that the best "cheap" oil to use for them is Torco. Mine was quiet when I did the break in and one oil change afterward (all using the Kaaz oil), but when I changed it to a Motul oil it started doing what you are describing. Bought Torco because I heard that it's basically the same stuff as the Kaaz oil (and maybe the Tomei stuff too), but haven't swapped the diff back in yet to try it. Been running the VLSD since then, but am going to swap the Kazz back in when I change the chassis. Sorry I didn't have a more helpful response, maybe someone with a little more experience can chime in!

heh every little bit helps me! So thanks for the input! Yeah, I'm thinking it may just be fluid as well. But, if that's it, then I'm not sure if I should go ahead and change it or wait till the break-in is done.

If it were me, I would change it asap. I'm a little OCD though, ha ha

While I don't have any experience directly with clutch pack lockers, but I do have a bit in assembling rear ends. Did you shim the diff properly when it was put in and did you check the backlash? Both of those being improperly set can cause unwanted drivetrain noise. Hopefully it's just an issue with the diff itself since you say it's happening mid-turn. You could always contact Kaaz and ask if that's a standard issue with brand new 2 ways and see what they recommend.

Yeah, I checked the shimming/backlash on it and everything checked out. I suppose I could give them a call. I'll see about doing that today while I'm on lunch.

Just an update, I called the guys at Tomei and they seem to think that it's having trouble because of the fluid I put in it. However, it is normal to have a little popping during the break-in. They told me if it's something I can put up with and it's not excessive, to just finish the break-in and replace it. And if that's not the case, then just change it now.

Since the popping seems to be backing off some(drove it to work today) I may just hold out for a little longer before I change it.
