crimeny man, get a grip. They are just lifters. If you want them that bad I will see if I can get some, take a chill pill. If you really want them and have money in hand I'll call Tomei today and see if they have some.

I should know if they are in stock at Tomei in about half and hour. Tomei's site lists them at $360.00 for the set. Legwork and shipping I would say $400 to your door.

They said "four weeks". They said that about cams too, about twenty four weeks ago so I take it to mean "never". I guess you are screwed guy, sorry. I'm not sure what the **** Tomei's problem is but I would expect better from a large company like that. I guess JUN gets my money.

mainly for rediculous lift cams but also to raise the safe limits of rotation for the valvetrain. I will likely use them on the frankenstein motor with some crazygonuts JUN cams.

VG30DE(T) solid lifters work just fine, you just get 8 more lifters than you need.

370 bucks and you can get the shim kit from the same place.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWD1V

They also have the 256 poncams from tomei and the valve springs

Raretrick has the JUN camshaft kits also.

HOWS ABOUT.......

we get 3 people who are dead nuts serious about solid lifters, and make this **** happen.

this thread is the solid lifter meeting place.

*2* sets of vg30dett solid lifters.

But from who? Im sure we could get them in the states for alot cheaper than japan, but lets start with options and prices.

Lets not give tomei our money anymore so dont mention them.

You mean two sets of VG lifters. 24x2=48 16x3=48

i wish they had tomei pro cams and not just the pon cams. did anyone see the valve springs they had? you could have a build head from him for ~1200 without cam gears. pretty baller.

You guys do know that the 'shim kit' is merely a measuring kit. And that once you have installed the measuring shim kit, that you have to install the cams and camwheels and timing belt, measure each of the lifter->cam clearances, add 2.4mm to the measurement, and then buy custom shims (measure by hand) for each lifter? They are $10-$20 each, which is another $200-$300. Several non-nissan engines also use shims, so there are places that make the shims, but they can take up to 2 weeks to be surface ground and heat treated.

Not a cheap exercise. With GTRs, Nissan dealers have heaps of all thickness shims, and they can be swapped out if a valve is reseated, and the lifter clearance changes. Some places will do exchange, other will charge you for a new one.

Or if you just order 16 of the thickest shims Tomei makes, you have have them ground down to fit and only have to buy the shims once.

That might work.. I used Kameari Lifters:http://www.kameariusa.com/index.php

"recommended by Tomei, when they couldn't supply".

Tomei didn't make shims thick enough for those lifters.

And if you buy the thickest ones, how are you supposed to measure for clearance? That's the point of using 2.3mm shims and using two feeler gauges either side of the cam lobe.

Damn you and your thinking!

Yea, I didn't think about that. Um, maybe measure the clearance before installing the shims?

bingo.I watched a buddy shim his FJ and he just used a whetstone and even pressure to take bigger shims and work them down until he got the desired clearance.

and to followup on my earlier post...

Darn Tomei ship 12 shims in their shim measuring kit. I had to put the cams in twice to measure the shims. Tomei Tightasses added 2 hours to the shim measuring job.

If the CA18 was guaranteed to be a non-interference engine, I could have done one cam at a time. Because of the yes/no stories, I did 12 lifters, pulled the timing belt and cams out, installed the remaining 4, and then measured them too. Then pulled them all out, waited for the shims to be made, and 2 weeks later installed them...and cranked the engine over with my eyes tightly closed.

Thanks goodness my measuring technique was ok.

PS. I rounded up and down the measurements by +-0.02 mm, to reduce the number of specific thickness shims I needed. No strange noises.
