Ok SR experts...I bought a set of tomei solid lifters from HT like 6 months ago, and am just now getting around to assembling my head and have a question. The tomei lifters are about 3/16" shorter than the stock lifters...do i just drop them in and voila? How are you supposed to adjust them?? HT says that they should just drop in (i talk to yury often) and that they are universal for the S13/14/15 motors. Anyone know if it's just a drop in deal? Or do i need to buy/change something else?

You need to change your cams to ones made to work with the solid tappets. Tomei should have them.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for those tappets? Also, which are you gonna sell now...the tappets or the cams...;)

$100 for the lifters/tappets from HT prolly gonna see if i can return them....hell, i dunno...

Anyone know how high you can rev an SR with a completely built valvetrain and stock lifters then? I'm wanting to go to about 8500 when i get my built motor back...

I'll have the JWT cams, tomei RAS, greddy springs...perhaps some ferrea or JWT titanium retainers.

Yeah, i'm thinking of getting the ferrea 1mm over valves as long as i'm building the piss outta the rest of the motor...might as well, right? But, for now, i was just gonna run stockers

Will the Tomei cams that jspec.com sells work with the lifter? Or is there a special type to buy?

TIA

You need special cams.

Damn, Jun sells those tappets for $700+! $100 is an awesome price.

As for the redline, I wouldn't raise it to 8500 without those solid tappets. If you have valve springs and a RAS kit, then maybe just a little bit (like 200-300rpm), but the weakest point of the head are those hydraulic tappets. I would sell or return those cams and buy some solid type cams if I were you...that or forget about raising your redline IMHO. Good luck either way.:)

HKS has them too, known as the "lask killer set" for somewhere around 500. It includes solid tappets and valve springs. I read somewhere that with the lash killer set for the RB26 motor, people used it just so they can use more aggressive cams (lift higher then 9.5mm).

P.S. Tappets aka Lifters

With the awesome properties of duct tape, it would seem that certainly you could! But alas, I think even duct tape falls short of that lofty goal :(

Because technically lifters are only used on pushrod engines.

the Jun info says something about "cutting of the head face".. Is this just a 'bolt on' affair, or does it require machining?

I will be totaly honest, I have absoultly ZERO under the valvecover experince.. But I was hopeing to do my tappets/springs/cams/camgears myself. Now I am wondering if I shouldnt mess with it.

I believe that means shaving the head to lower compression. Headwork is fairly simple as long as you have a valve spring compressor. Everything else is bolted in or dropped in. It's the machining things that get tricky.

Cyberkreig, are you talking about this:Quote »From Jun Japan[CAUTION]Apply a solid type cam shaft. The head that has lash killer process is required to change the automotive valve system for RNN14 (separate product ; valve INT/EXH, locker-arm, pivot, locker-guide, locker shaft retainer, locker valve spring, and shim. )[/quote]If so, they are talking about the Pulsar SR20DET (RNN14 is the Pulsar GTi-R chassis code).

If not, where did you see that?

I guess i miss read it. I am looking at the "complete head" on http://www.takakaira.com

it says "put off lush (lush killer process), cutting head face."

I must have missed that comma
