I was informed by one of our aussie board members that Tomei is done making CA18 gear. I was surprised as the parts are still on both the websites so I went to a local parts shop and had them call he said "no more". I hadn't planned on buying anything but upon hearing this my hoarding instinct kicked in. I sent an e-mail to Tomei and I hope to hear back on the validity of this. I will update if and when I hear anything. Just for my general information if a group buy was set up for items like cams and head gaskets who would be interested. If the company is receptive and can tell me the magic number to turn the machines back on to spit some cams and gaskets out I would like to be able to give them some indication of what kind of numbers we can pull down on this end. I can recieve items through the Japanese mail and get them plugged into the U.S. mail so if it was possible and the demand was there I would be willing to coordinate. Just letting you know my commitment, Tomei may tell us to buy an SR20

It will depend on what I here from Tomei. Mine was almost $300.00 but it was a stupid-thick 2.0 super stopper.

screw it, get me some procams. I start making $20/hr next week so i should be able to swing it as long as my parents dont get wind of my devious plans. something in the 264 9mm range would be sweet.

You'll need to get a 40/hr job to afford anything larger than 8.8mm :-)

I reckon a pair of 264/8.8 would be the best bang for buck. You can still run standard hydraulic lifters. Going to solid cams makes baby jesus cry.

We've all discussed this topic in length 12 months ago, when I was putting 270/9.25 cams on my engine. But, what the hell, lets discuss it again. We might get some new input from other members.

For my needs, stock cams are fine but I could see going with the entry-level Tomei hydraulic cams for the increased lift and a little bit of duration. I can't see needing anything bigger than a 260.

Has anyone looked at the Rb and CA cam gears side-by-side? I would not be surprised if they were the same.

Interested in 256 Poncam set (just cams) if the groupbuy prices can beat Greenline's price ($359.29 plus shipping).

but not the rb26 ones, right? I thought they were longer or something...in any rate they werent the same as the rb20/25 and vg ones.

rhd japan can get jun and tomei solid lifters, valvesprings, guides, retainers, cams, etc. so you may want to check them out. kinda expensive but if you really want them...

Correct RB26 is different but RB20, 25 VG30 and CA are the same. The only difference between the kits are the number of lifters, the single part is the same.http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003....html

thought Tomei quit the ca18 a long time ago.

Lots of oz/nz ca18s have aftermarket cams surprisingly.

I'm curious how much of a performance difference drop-in replacement hydraulic cams actually make. Cool if they're effective as the DSMs.

I'd think the "serious" solid lifter cams makes a pronounced difference, but the pricetag for a total valvetrain package that would "make baby jesus cry", means you're at the point where you start considering a rb25.

Still looking for some feedback from the colt? cams Dee came up with.

If the Greenline Tomei are $359 per pair?, not too bad.

Inexpensive adjustable cam gears can be made by modifying stock gears. Seen them done for the sohc vg30, 4age, etc. by group members with skills or access to machining equipment. The ca18 oe gear looks just as 'simple' to alter. Of course, only an alternative if ya can't find a used set.

RB cam gears are a no go for the ca18 iirc, from a thread on sxoc.

What about Nuke Performance(http://www.nukeperformance.com/) stuff? I remember seeing a thread about it a few months back, like somebody wanting to start a group buy on it. Their stuff looks really nice, but I don't know the quality of it though. Maybe a member could translate the info on that page?

Ok, my wife just called Tomei for me, here's the scoop. Tomei has none on the shelf but they have not stopped carrying them. My wife is not a gearhead so she had a little difficulty explaining it but it sounds like Tomei has the raw blanks cast by another company and then they machine it in-house. They are waiting for blanks probably. The guy she spoke with was sorry that they had them up on the site but not on the shelf but they are definitely not discontinuing them. They are not in high demand so it's just not that high of a priority. Possibly in three months was what we were told. I will periodically check with them and let everyone know when they are back in stock. I might buy a set even though I will probably never need them just so I have them. If when they are back in stock you guys want me to get them for you instead of dealing with a stateside dealer I will be willing.
