Has anyone ever purchased a Tomei crate engine? I saw them on FRsport.com, a NICO sponsor, so I know they're reputable, and I know of Tomei's reputation in Japan, but is it really worth the price? They're ten grand for the stage 1(non-stroked) and thirteen grand for the stage 2(stroked). I was looking to get an S15 stage 1, but the picture represented on the site is only the engine; not even the t-28 is included. Any ideas?

Why not just by an S15 motor that comes everthing and then rebuild it for less than half the cost of the over-priced Tomie crap.

I'd go with the build your own idea too. You could get a bare block for cheap and build exactly what you want for much less than 10k. BC stroker kits are what, $3k?

Buying a built engine instead of building your own prevents you from a lot of things, like frustration, knowing how, break in time, and the time spend in putting it together. It's not exactly cheap to do it yourself. Especially if you add machine work into the picture.

In my opinion you get what you pay for. If you have the money it saves a lot of time and possible headache. p.s. if a warranty is available warranties are a beautiful thing.

I know lol. I just got all rild up when I thought about spending 10 grand on a bare long block. Tomie is good, but way out of my price range. With $10K, including the price of the motorset, you could build a 500 hp monster... not just a brand new bare bones S15.

I didnt mean to affend anyone, I take my comment back lol.

Tomei isnt the worst but there not the greatest either. For the price, better can be had.

No way I'd spend 10 grand on just an engine, even if Tadahiro Iwakoshi himself built it.

IMO I don't think it's worth it for the average Joe in us. Being that our car is either a DD or a weekend warrior that might see the track here and there. For that you can build or have a reputable shop build it for a lot less.

Now if I'm taking my car for some hardcore road racing series events then the Tomei might be a good buy for it's reliability and longevity.

They are not bad but for the average Joe they're out of our ball park.

i'm doing a built motor job for a customer right now, with upgrades and the bill is under 10k.
