I plan on getting some tomei poncams, and tomei valve springs for my rb25 but my question is would the stock ECU be able to handle the new cams without needing to upgrade to a stand alone system?I tried looking on here but ireally couldnt find a definitive answer on my specific question.

yes, poncams are drop-in.i would pony up the cash and just get procams tho...only a few dollars more and you get more duration and a bit more lift.

procams require head mods for lift on the rb25 iirc and some require solid lifters

Get HKS cams instead - 256/264. The reliability of tomei cams in Australia is known for wear. HKS cams have next to no issues here. They will bolt in no mods required.

With the poncam you still can use the vvt. Procams can not. So I would go with tomei poncam for the int. and hks ext cam. I tinks its like a 264 or something.

Your splitting hairs. Same thing, different name. Bottom line though, don't get cams with out a tune. Get the stand alone first.

Will, you might be on to something with the poncam on the intake and bigger on the exhuast. I might try that, but I don't think I can shove any more air through the stock intake/TB.

I know we are technically splitting hairs, but what I was getting at was for him to explain how the procams would voild the nvcs.

BTW, can I call nvcs vtak and get away with it here? Its pisses honda owners off, its funny.

I've read on the australian boards that it isnt vvt on the neo, I can't remember I think it was the fact it had vct on the exhuast too. I give up with RBs and the vvt thing. Vtak is overrated anyways...
