would there be any downfalls to getting such large cams, other then streetablity? im thinking about going tomei 280/280 solid cams and BC springs / ti retainers, anyone with same cams tell me what they think.

I think it's awesome. The only thing is that it will move your power range higher into the rev band. Now you can combat this a couple of ways.

You can get a big dumb turbo to make the most of the power range you do have. You can go with a twinscroll setup to help spool a larger turbo faster and keep some mid-range and still be able to feed the motor with the air it will need up top. Or you can build a head to rev to 9k and lengthen your power band.

In all actuality 280 degree cams really are not that big. Our V-8 counter parts have cams the keep the valves open for much longer durations. The only reason these small cams are popular with us is because if the useable torque they create with the smaller displacement motor's.

But with the right setup large cams can make a very fast and very fun setup. Just remember to compensate for the movement of the power range.
