after a 11 week delay, the blues and boots have arrived! I have a few questions that I would like to ask the experts.

1. How many hours labor is reasonable to do 4 shocks?2. How do the boots secure to the shocks? wire ties?

The boots just slip over the top of the shocks and stay in place inside the springs. If you're doing it yourself, 4 hours in the garage with hand tools. If you're paying someone with air tools and spring compressors, 2 hours should be enough.

so you do not need to secure the bottom of the boot to the shock to keep dust out?seems like something should be holding the boot tight against the shock body.

No, it hangs loose. It's a "dust boot" but it's more important in protecting the strut from water and from damage caused by larger debris. You can try securing it if you want, but it will surely wear out faster. As far as labor, 2 hours is "reasonable" for a shop, but 4 hours or so is the "book" rate. Negotiate if you can, and don't let them charge you more labor for replacing parts in the shock assembly.

And don't arrive with your trunk full of junk as the rear divider must be removed to get to the top rear strut tower.

Customers are confused when we ask them to unload/reload all their personal garbage in the shop.........techs are not bag boys.

The dust boots are much much more they have integrated mini progressive TUNED bump stops at the top.

Begs a return to the question -- what DO you have in your trunk? Me, I've got one milk crate, which contains one quart full synthetic oil and one gallon distilled water (yes, I'm a convert). Best regards. :-)

From some of Tech's earlier comments, unloading some of the trunks can be a legal exercise...

"well sir, your car would handle a lot better if you distribute these kilos more evenly across the trunk..."
