First of all I have a 1989 240sx. Im looking for a more aggressive suspension setup, but one that can be daily driven, which is the car's main use. The roads around here aren't the best but there are no major pot holes or anything. I will be using my stock 15" alloy wheels with this setup. My budget is under 500, around 400 preferably. I was reading reviews and comments and well I came up with the Tokico Blue non adjustable struts. Tokico sells a kit that comes with the Tokico Blue's and their own spring that gives a 1" drop. Should I get these, or should I buy struts, and an aftermarket spring such as prokit..etc. They reccomend not to drop it more than 1", and I wouldn't really want more than a 1" drop. Also I noticed you didnt have any info in the FAQ about tokico, one reason im doing this post. So will this suspension suit my needs, and not blow out within a year or 2? Thanks

I'm not a big fan of the tokico stuff, I've seen mutliple blow-outs during autocross and/or 'spirited' street driving.

*shrug*I do, however like the KYB GR2 and eiback setup, since the gr2 is 10-20% stiffer, and the eibachs are made for stock stuff, it drops and firms it up a bit, witout the trouble(or performance, it is a trade off) of the AGX adjustability and cost(again, the trade off)

just my thoughts right now.-chet

Hey your car looks lowered right now, what did you end up getting?

How are Eibachs made for stock? they provide a 1.5" drop and when they settle they are around 1.75, the GR-2s will blow very quickly (seen it happen) with that drop.

I have been looking into the Tokico package myself, I'm just not sure about their reliability as I've heard more than one person ***** about them. Then again I know people who blew their AGXs and GR-2s.

This package is actually pretty new, and one of the main reasons for people blowing their Tokicos in the past could be because... nobody ever matches the springs to the shocks! So they just work however they do and then blow, because they were not meant to be together. I would like to see someone who blew their Tokicos while using them with springs that matched. I really would. Same goes for KYBs and all other shocks that do not specifically state that they were tuned to work with a specific spring.Unless you had the shocks revalved for the springs, they will not match them well, even if they are adjustable like the AGXs, because the adjustability is only made for your comfort/preference not for different springs. But who revalves their shocks? Well they should, it's cheaper and more effective than adjustability, because really, you're only supposed to adjust the shocks once, to set them for your car and then drive/track them at that setting.

I don't believe in going to the track and adjusting the shocks, and then readjusting them after you're done. That way you'll have to re-adapt to them every time you go autoXing. That's stupid. I'm really thinking about the Tokico package. They are matched, it should last a while, and it's cheaper than any other package.

i'm going tokico. but with my stock springs. if i were to go with springs it would be white lines. i sugest geting some koni bumpstops to keep them from bottoming out. that will blow them quick.

I would like to hear what someone thinks of the tokico's from an owner. That would clear up any misconceptions.

I'd stay away from tokicos. I've been running them in my daily driver for about a year and the rears are already blown. If I remember correctly the springs are eibach prokits. I'm gonna change over to KYB AGX's and see how they are.

Why not change back to stock spring [length] stiffness so you can get 60k shock life.

All the non adjustable under $200 each] blow out fast [using them in a non design] configuration. Or just get custom shocks designd to match springs.

When you reduce the shock stroke length by 2.5"/3.5" = 30% the extra force overwhelms the internal seal structure and heat shedding ability.

Duh. Read above. Did you do research on how Tokicos will handle a 1.5"+ drop? Nope. Does anyoen really? Nope. Tokicos were designed for stock use. It's like using stock injectors with a t78. "Oh the t78 sux, it made my car blow." No it didn't. You did. Same for shocks and any other part of the car that is not used within its capacity. Thanks Q45tech, you're right on the money.

I also have tokico hp shocks/struts with eibach sportlines on my 97.5 le. They're ok but I want full coil overs now. They do improve handling but the sportlines aren't stiff enough for MY liking. I'd recomend saving a bit more personally, but it's not my $$$.

I'll sell you mine if you want, I'm selling them regardless when I buy my new suspension.

PS- I've seen people ride on hp series for years with no problem.

I purchased Tokico HP (blue) and Tein S-Tech as a package from Options Auto Salon. I like these parts, but they are not as stiff as I had hoped. Improvement over 160k stock was like night and day. Cornering speed in smooth turns has more than doubled, on same tires. Car is about 1.25 lower in back, but is stock height in front, so it looks gay.
