96 Q45

I thought I would be able to buy Tokico Blue shocks for the front for $110 each, but now I am being told the price is now $333 at infiniti parts(scottsdale) and $430 at order infiniti parts. What's going on and isn't this nuts? I guess Tokico is making their latest gold plated.

Has anyone done ebay successfully? Are the rubber parts above the shock available elsewhere? Is there a rubber boot necessary for the front?

Thank you.

Those prices sound like they're for the Tokico "black" OEM units. Did you ask them for the Tokico part #? I believe it's Tokico HU2890A for 94-96 fronts. The 90-93 front is a different part # as the lower mounting hole is a different diameter.

If that's the "correct" Blue price, I'd check other (reputable) online sources.

Good point. They were given the year and the vin# but another question won't hurt.

I think stillen sells them as well. Around 400$ for all 4 shipped. I remember someone posting a link to some colored suspension boots

Based on info from this forum I misunderstood that oem shocks are the same as tokico blues. While they may be identical the parts guys using your vin# will, unless you are specific, give you an oem price which is significantly more than a Tokico Blue price, assuming they carry both. Order Infiniti Parts does not carry Tokicos, only oem's. Joe at Scottsdale has been scarce but I will keep trying for the Blue only price as I bought the Blue rears there.

The OEM are Tokico Blacks, you want the Blues & not just because of the price.

Shop the internet, I think even Amazon has them & if you have "Prime" they may ship for free. Use the Part # I posted above.

Thanks Rex. It all makes sense now. Amazon is another good idea. If I can also find the same source for all the immediate rubber parts above the shocks, i will be able to finish this off.

Here's what I had up until last spring ... finally sold them locally.

2 Insulator Strut Mount tops (P/N 5432060U05). The metal top mount, IOS's price is $46.76 each - I'm asking $80 for the pair + shipping
2 Seat Rubber (P/N 5403460U05). The Rubber mounting ring, IOS's price is $18.11 each - I'm asking $28 for the pair + shipping
2 Bumper Assembly (P/N 5405060U10). The strut boot, IOS's price is $18.80 each - I'm asking $28 for the pair + shipping.

That should help you with the part #'s and ball park IOS pricing from a couple years ago.

Many thanks again. That will be a big help. Have you noticed that IOS' prices are up and the discounts are less? Their price for the Blues is now $130+ when much of the competition is at $110 or less.

IOS was never really lower priced, at least not much, but what they used to provide above and beyond all other places was great service. Unfortunately, the word I hear is that's not always the case anymore.

Ultimately, knowledge is going to be the key asset when trying to maintain a 16+ year old car that never had much aftermarket (replacement) parts support in it's heyday.

I would recommend find 1 good parts source and give them as much business as possible, then if you ever need some "special service", the likelihood you'll get help goes up.

I agree. Years ago when they were probably much smaller you could get Joe on the phone and get good knowledgeable help. This time around Joe doesn't return calls and his minions are short answered and much less helpful.

I've heard things about www.orderinfinitiparts.com from a couple of members. They're out of Charlotte, NC. It might be worth talking to them...

Thanks Heath. Someone else had mentioned them and I ordered a crank pulley from them. As the story goes there was a delay because the first two or three pulleys had arrived with cracks. An overnighter should get a good one here today. Less then 30k miles ago I had bought a crank pulley from Joe.

An apparently good crank pulley arrived today from Order Infiniti parts. Damn thing is too heavy for most little, poorly padded boxes. Needs very special padding or you can expect cracks. The other good news is that they deleted the original shipping charge of $21.65. So $235.91 + 1.50 handling fee is my total out of pocket.

I had several pairs of bent upper links once from packing issues.

So you replaced your harmonic balancer/crank pully 30k ago and it failed again?

Intermittent belt squeaking/squealing and a wobbling pulley were the issues this time.

For what it's worth, I saw a complete set of Blues for 90-93 for $291 on eBay. 94-96 are $333 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tokico-H ... 4160f6244e
