Ok, so i have one question, that maybe someone with an adverse car audio background mght be able to help me with.

I installed an eclipse audio head unit 2din dvd player in my car. so far it has had no problems. But i was wondering about the bypass dvd situation.

So far the friend that installed it for me, hooked it up so i can play a dvd while the car is in motion. (I use this feature for music videos,)I know about the bypass, and the grounding and how it is done, but was wondering if it makes sense to put my ground on a toggle switch like i have seen other people do. What is the purpose of this, and is it nessassary? I was actually told that if i do not dothis, then i risk burning my head unit. please anyone with any advise please respond. THanks.

ok, regarding the parking brake (light green wire) ... on all aftermarket units, the light green wire is "supposed" to be attached to the wire for the parking brake... thus you are only suppose to be able to watch movies while the car is stopped... however, for years, folks would just ground that wire, which makes the unit think the car is parked, and allows you to watch movies and operate nav while the vehicle is in motion...

the leader in aftermarket navi/dvd was Pioneer for a long time... and when there was increased heat being brought to make it more difficult to watch movies while in motion, then pioneer changed its software, and you could no longer just ground the parking brake... one would have to hit the parking brake, release the parking brake, and hit the parking brake again to allow video to be seen on the unit... to get around this, in addition to the numerous hacks created (opening back of unit and soldering wires on the motherboard, mute button hack) a simple solution would be to install the light green switch oa toggle switch, and click the toggle switch on,off,on.

To my knowledge, only pioneer's units required this... I didn't think this was necessary on the elcipse units...but I could be wrong...

also, no this will not damage your unit keepign the light green wire grounded...

I have a Clarion VZ409 and I also needed to use a switch. IMO if the only reason you are contemplating the switch is to avoid the risk of burning the head unit, I would say no switch. You already have everything fully functional as is and there really is no potential risk, why complicate it?

If you do decide to install a switch, here is how I did mine.
