Today at school a kid got hit by a train... and I saw it happen

There's a train track that runs through the middle of the campus. There's guard arms and lights everywhere. Some and his girlfriend tried to cross the tracks. She made it across but only half of him got across. Probably the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life. Excuse me while I go and vomit. The guard arms and lights go on for a reason, stop being stupid and be safe.

It didn't happen right in front of me or else I would've been splattered. I was a ways down from the train thingy. Hell I was like 100ish ft away and I slowed down to almost stopping when the guard arms came down. I saw him get blown apart though.

I think I'm most pissed because how could someone be that careless? First it's loud as hell, I don't care what kind of music you're listening too. Secondly, you'd feel the vibration of the train coming. We have deaf students who have said they can feel the trains coming. Third, there are lights and HUGE arms coming down. Unless you were blind, deaf and numb of the body there's no way you could get hit like that.

After some thought, and calming down, I now feel sympathy for him. However, it still doesn't get the image out of my head. *shudder* Anyway, be safe and don't be stupid.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must go and try to get the image of a body being ripped apart out of my head.

I don't know the whole story, so I can't really make a judgement, but what I can say is that if this was an act of carelessness/stupidity, then this accident is just cleaning out the gene pool.

You may want to see if you can talk to a professional about this (ie. a therapist). That can't be any easy thing to see and deal with. It might help you work through it. Sounds like it was truly horrific.

There's train tracks that go through your school campus??? Who made the plans for the school? You would think that with all the lights they spend the could of just built a walkway that goes across it don't you think? I've seen a similar accident but wasn't at school and I've seen 2 cars get hit by trains.

Anyway, thats rough. The worst thing Ive seen was that soldier in getting decapitated. Took a while to get it out.

There also was a girl fight at my school where one girl hit the other in the head with a wrench that she hid in her pocketbook. Blood everywhere. Rough stuff. Just try to geti it out of your head and keep yourself VERY busy. It worked for me so I say try it.

You would think that when a train is coming to a high populated are it would slow down. I mean going that fast by a campus. Lot a factors that could have prevented it but dam. Says he saw the train and didn't hurry.....

crazy stuff..... i'd rather wait afew minutes at a gate then ever risk something like that. gives me some time for another cig or two. They say you can't tell how quick a train is really coming when your looking towards it, gives people a false sense that they can make it.

Used to be a big problem at my school. Sad thing was: there was an overpass walkway, people were just too lazy to use it. Now, the tracks are blocked off w/ 20' tall fence and a 40' wide underpass now exists.

You'd be shocked how many people get killed by trains every year. Much of it is due to sheer stupidity on the victims part, either taking shortcuts, trying to beat a train through a grade crossing or trying to catch a free ride. It happens daily. But a surprising amount of the deaths are suicides. And not surprising, many of victims families ending up suing the railroads anyway, even the suicides. Sorry you had to witness something so horrific. Oh, I work for a railroad.
