So while tearing down my engine only to find the knock sensors in poor shape I decided to replace them...only to find that good oem ones are over 100$ each! With a little bit of searching I came across a new oem knocksensor that nissan sells for about 25$ per.
This knock sensor is identical in size in shape but you have to swap pigtails for it to plug in and modify the plug connector a bit.Using injector plugs from a 91-98 ka24de you can plug into these knock sensors no problems, just shave the left hand tang off and the injector plug slips on.
You will also need to ground the other wire off of the injector plug as the new style sensor requires an external ground, you'll get a knock code if you do not do this...I crimped on a ring terminal and put it on top of the knock sensor using the knock sensor thrubolt to secure it.
Use proper splicing techniques here, be sure to solder and shrinkwrap each connection made...dont want failure from a poor connection under the plenum.these knock sensors are from an early z33 and can be had on http://www.rockauto.com pn 5S2377, this will bring up an airtex part but rest asurred that it is a GOOD part as its manufactured by NTK and is stamped made in japan.

Above: left - new unmodified knock sensor, center - dead stocker, right - modified new sensor.

are left and right side knock sensors the same?

does just the upper mainifold need to come off, or do they generally remove upper and lower manifold?

yes, they are identical.you MIGHT be able to get to them with the upper plenum on but i highly doubt it...

Changed both of mine just pulling the upper plenum. You have to remove the Y shaped cooling hose gismo to get to them.

Good find.....nissan uses the same knock sensors on all their vehicles, right?

i know it looks identical the the ks on my maxima and the ks on my buddy's titan...this would be a good find for anyone that owns a nissan.
