A few months back a bunch of members went on a tear Plasti Dipping wheels. To those members, how is it holding up? Still have a nice finish? Everything intact?

Im considering PD for my stock winter wheels, just want to be sure its going to be worth it before I spend the time.

Thanks.

Yep, still holding up. I've had it for about a month and a half, maybe 2 months now? A little hard to keep clean cuz it seems like brake dust and dirt stick to it a little more than usual, but nothing too bad. What's great about it is that I curbed my wheel a little tiny bit when I was trying to flip a b**** where I wasn't supposed to, and when I got home I just sprayed some more Plastidip on (cuz it peeled off) and you never would know it was chipped a little :)

I was actually looking at your thread before...

So does it have like a tacky finish on it? I dont want to have to be re-spraying these things every month. Winters are cold here...and snowy. I want it on and done for the winter.

It's a somewhat rough surface, similar to the griptape of a skateboard maybe? That seems to be my closest comparison.

I haven't had any chipping from just driving around at all. Dirty, yes. But flaking, coming off, etc just from daily driving hasn't happened at all.

Okay so maybe griptape was a bad example lol. It's definitely not as rough as griptape, but it has that thick kinda feeling. It's hard to explain.

Just buy a can, and spray some random piece of plastic you have in your garage or something. It will give you a good example of what it looks like in person, how it feels, and how easy it comes off (in big pieces when you spray thick layers like you should).

if you want you can powdercoat them, but its more expensive but better quality.

But if you spray them, its alot cheaper and more convenient, up to you lol. Since there just your winter wheels I say just go for it.

Yeah Im not spending the money for powder coat. I have a guy I a few towns over that did my grille and he would give me a good deal, and I still dont want to spend the money. I was thinking of this because its ridiculously cheap.

Do it, my wheels have been dipped for about four weeks I guess. While I can't attest to their longevity, I will say that they seem very durable. I wash my car often and scrub the wheel surface and it's been fine. I havent had any dip come off of the rims. The finish is a finely-bumpy rubbery surface. I think they would last all winter for sure

So, I think I'm going to plasti dip my stock wheels until I purchase my xxr 521 wheels. Has anyone done this with the wheels on the car? Or do I certainly need to take them off. Any pics?

Check out my thread titled, Hello All. It has some info you're looking for. It's under the coupe forum just like this thread. I wouldn't paint with the wheels on because you would paint your calipers and rotors and wouldn't be able to get the nissan badge off or paint past the spokes. You definitely want to take your wheels off for this one. Not to mention it's easier to clean when they're off.
