Hey,To those of you with upgraded exhausts fitted - do you notice that the car makes a lot of popping kind of sounds when you back off the throttle??

My car does it heaps loudly... I wonder if it's because of the hi-flow cat or if my ecu is just upset with me.... I'm used to those kinds of sounds coming out of a turbo car but it seems a little extreme given its only a 1.8 NA :S

Anyway... just wondering if anyone else with an exhaust has noticed these noises?

All cars make this noise, as someone once told me, the sliencer, resenator, and muffler that they put on the stock cars limit the noice to almost none...but its there for every car.

Normally when a "popping" sound happens after shifting and then letting off the gas it's because there is a leak in one of the pipe junctions. By that I mean where the midpipe is welded to the rear cannister for example. It happens when cold air is sucked into the hot exhaust. The noise is the explosion of the hot meeting the cold. I learned this during my motorcycle exhaust experience with Bub Enterprises in San Jose. I brought him many vehicles for reasearch and developement of the exhaust systems and he alway told me that a leak, even a small leak would not be noticed on accelerationm but will be noticed on deceleration. Hope that helps. If you added a "bolt-on" system, try tightening the clamps. If a system was welded, check the welds, especially on the top where the welds are hard to ensure completion if the welder cannot see because of it being too tight or close to the body.
