ok, the pics on the cluster removal wee taken from the avic411 site... all of the rest of the pics were mine...

I used taps for both the cluster and the rear brake light

1. if you don't tap the speed sensor wire, then your navigation ill NOt be as accurate, and you will only be using the built in gyro to setermine speed, acceleration, etc. But you can still use the unit without tapping this wire

2. If you don't tap the reverse wire, then you will not be able to view the reverse camera view either when driving or when backing up, pending you ever decide to install a reverse camera. But gain, your unit should be functional without hooking up this wire.

Just curious as to why you are going with the avic F series.... too many bugs IMO!

Pioneer makes a more ipod classic like interface.. but the ipod interface / response time on Kenwood units is faster! Also, Kenood makes a pretty good bluetooth unit built by parrot!

but if you think the update will fix the bugs in the F90bt unit, then by all means try it out... but check the avic411 forums first!

I got the Kenwood DNX 5120 for $454 after cashback from sonicelectronix on ebay. Sonicelectronix has a website, but if you go to ebay and use the 30% cashback from slickdeals/live.com you can get it cheap. You do have to pay $649.99/shipped up front using paypal, then after 60days you will get $195.00 cashback to your paypal account for a net of $454 for the unit.

The online reviews i read about sonicelectronix were good overall.

The link for the slickdeals/live.com 30% cashback is in Altima general disscusion section.

Doc, instead of tapping the reverse wire for the rear view camera. Can you just ground the wire so you can view the camera while in motion. I know I was able to ground the brake wire on my old pioneer deck and that let me watch videos while in motion. Would the same thing apply hear?

I thought the reason to connect the rev. camera wire was so that it automatically switches the display to rear view when you put the car in reverse. You should still be able to switch to the camera while driving through your stereo controls, for example with the DNX-5120 you press and hold the "NAV" button to swith to rear view.

ok good to know thanks. I am in the process of researching exactly what i want for my subs and amps, but havent quite made it to the after market nav units yet. I was un awair that the aftermarket units will let you view while in motion. The stock bose system is the first unit ive had with the reverse camera

Yeah, it's not a very useful feature to be able to use the camera while driving forward, but it definitely is fun. And you certainly want to make sure the reverse lead is connected correctly as it makes is so much easier to see what's behind you when you back up (rather than going through the touch screen to select that video input).
