That is the question. I am ordering some p45r's today and was oiginally planning on getting the 4x114.3 +12 17x9's all the way around, until i saw that they had a staggered set for not much more. They are all 4x114.3+12 with 17x9 in the front and 17x9.5 in the back. I want to go with the staggered ones but i didn't know if there was anything i should know first, the inside of the 9.5 is probably made so that it wont stick out farther than the 9's right? cause that would look dumb...i dont want to have to get any spacers or do any mods to fit these on my stock brakes+ eibachsportlines/kyb's. I know those suck, they were free, and my next mod is going to be some stance gr+ pro's. Any help is appreciated...also what am i looking at for tires for the rear then? i was thinking 215/40r17 for the fronts, and maybe something like 235/40r17 for the rear? does that sound remotely appropriate?

I think staggered is sexy as hell.

And the tire setup... 215 is gonna be small... I have 225 on my 17X7s. Because 25mm = 1 inch (well 25.4 to be more exact). Cause 215/25 is about 8.6 inches. You will need a much wider tire. You will need a minimum of a 225 size tire for your front (but probably 235 to be on the safe side) without stretching the tire. 225 is cutting it to on the fronts or rears without spacers or something. You will probably need a minimum of a 245 for your rear. I think that wide of a tire you are gonna need like a 10 or a 20 mm spacer front, just to be safe, and on the rears (more than likely). You might want to drop down to a 17X8 and a 17X8.5 or 17X9 at the biggest... But that's just me personally.

*edit* You can always go to discount tire's web site and you can actually buy tires by wheel size, not just vehicle make and model. That should help you out as well.

This is all preference really. From your post, you sound like the type who likes the stretched tire thing. Which indicates a preference of look over performance to me. Most HPDE would say don't stagger if you want to maintain handling balance versus changing too much in favor of oversteer or understeer.

Were it me, I'd try to fit 17x9.5+12 with sticky 255 series tires all around. Why? Because alot of 400-500+hp Silvia time attack cars run very similar sizes. This will be really difficult on stock fenders up front however.

But, if you want to slam your car, run 225/40 Federals all around.

Oh, and the 9.5+12 shouldn't 'stick out' a half an inch more than the 9+12. Rather, it should be half an inch deep/closer to your coils. So, I guess the easiest to fit should be the 17x9+12 with 225/40/17's.

if th car is your daily car then dont stagger, it makes no sense, tires are more expensive (most of the time), most places wont have both sizes on hand, they will have to be ordered, meaning possibly more money because of shipping, you cant rotate so your rear tires will probably wear faster, meaning you have to buy more, and you can have the same sizes on the front and rear and still have good fitment, it just doesnt make too much sense to me on daily driver

You can also fit tens in the front if you know what you're doing

This is a good site. Plug in your numbers and you can find out how much further your wheels will stick out or in.

Only 9!?

Thats the minimum I think s13's should have, IMO. There are plenty of ppl with 9.5's mounted.

17x10+23 fit stock fenders with non-stretched tires and clear most coilovers. Some run 265 series rubber up front. Go look in Zilvia's 'Maximum Rubber' thread.

Me, I'm planning either 17x10+18 RPF01's with 255/40's all around or 17x9.5+22 LMGT4's with the same tire sizes. Wide/sticky rubber + stock fenders = teh sex

Peep this vid and pay close attention to the wheel/tire setups...
