so i have to pull the motor out my car as i think i popped a HG (keep popping small collant hoses)and i already have my custom built gt3537 on there so i figured i might as well build the motor.i'd really like to go 90mm which i know will require sleeves, but do you think if i went 88 or so id be fine without sleeves at around 450-500whp?

i would say sleeve. i have read that 87 is the most you want to bore stock sleeves.

if you didn't plan on boosting high, 88 would probably be fine. but in the power range that your going to be in I would not risk it.

PS: there is a guy on ebay selling a kit with 90mm CP pistons, 90mm Cometic HG, and Darton sleeves for 900 shipped. (make him a best offer, that is where I got my parts from)

From what people have been saying its not good to go 90mm bore. The large bore doesnt leave much area for the Headgasket. If i did 2.2L, id Stroke it with 87mm pistons and new sleeves. Boring the stock sleeves out to 87mm, takes a good bit away which could cause problems.

in all honesty i dont want to stroke to motor and if i did i wouldnt do it off the shelf, im all about the baller one off stuff (i work at a machine shop)if i did go 90mm i'd o-ring the block and machine a reciever groove in the head so the the headagsket would have some extra bite to it.

if you surface the head properly, and use a 90mm MLS head gasket i do not think that you would have any problems.

Even with the Metal Gasket, theres far less material between cylinder walls which could blow in that area. Im not saying it wont work, im just letting others aware of problems that can occur. Stroker kit would solve this problem but costs more.

doers no one on here o ring blocks and heads for added sealing? i guess its just a trick us honda guys know, lol.

if i do build this motor i will be (as previously stated) o-ringing the block with recievier grooves in the head, gasket sealing or lack o material will not be an issue

stroker kits also generate more friction. which is why i did not go that route.
