So I decided to indulge myself and see if there are any 6 speed coupes for sale around me, I found two. I got my 08 3.5 cvt about 6 months ago and LOVE it. The car drives amazing and I love the power, but I HATE driving an automatic "sports-car". That being said, I'm seriously considering trading it in and buying the same exact car in 6 speed.

The car I'm looking at is selling for 15k (red, 3.5 6 speed) with 45k miles.

I'd be trading in a car of the same year, same engine, with a cvt and 36k miles.
Would the dealership give me a low-ball offer because I'm trading them the exact car they're selling me?
If you were in my shoes, would you do it?

Appreciate any and all feedback!

well new, the 6spd is about 2k more than the cvt when your talking out of the box new, and yours has more miles but im sure they would work with you, is it the same dealership that you got the one you own now? because if it is you could always play that card to your advantage.. a straight trade would be nice though huh :)

7500? but it's a certified used car, which adds a little value.

And Shadow, mine has almost 10,000 LESS miles, sorry if I made that unclear. And no, I will never go back to the dealership I got my current coupe from.

oh sorry got the numbers mixed up  well good luck, i didnt really have a choice because when i bought my cvt it for the intention of giving it to my little sister when she is medically able to drive, but i can see why your really wanting a 6 spd

maybe this will help though: how long are you planning on keeping the AC? because if your getting rid of it within 4-5 years and then upgrading then just wait it out and put more money into the next car weather it be a "z" or something else.. but if your holding on to it for a while then its deffinatly worth going in and seeing how much it'll cost you to get what you want

I'm going to stop in to the dealership that has the car and crunch some numbers with them, I'm planning on having this car from now until I finish college (God willing).

If its really what you want, and you can get it without adding to your debt, I say go for it. Make sure you do your research though.

+eleventy. If you want a sports car, then get a sports car. If you want to lose a couple grand to drive a grocery getter with a manual transmission, then do the trade and take a bath on the swap.

If I got the CVT, I would have gotten rid of my car a LLOOOONNNGGGG time ago! Every time I get in my car and run through the gears I am always in a better mood. Not a sports car but it's still a lot of fun to drive!

When trading in a car to a dealership you are always going to get low balled! Although, sometimes its worth the hassle of trying to sell it privately. My feeling is you are going to lose money.

I'm selling my 3.5 6MT. You want it? haha

On a serious note, don't go upside for this thing like I did. Stupid. Especially when you look at what's in my garage now. If you can get a good deal on trading to the 6MT, I say go for it, but do some serious thinking. If you truly want something like a Z or a RWD sports car, don't buy the Altima.

On the other hand, if you want a well balanced, modestly powered, sporty FUN 2 door daily driver, then the AC is a perfect car. I have a unique life situation that is the reason for me selling mine (that and I am clinging to my Z =D), otherwise I would be keeping it until it fell apart on me. My greatest wish is that my brother was in the financial situation that would allow him to take it off my hands, but oh well.

Just be smart about this man. I hate to see you get yourself stuck in a car. It is not fun.

Exactly.

I am a sports car freak, but I wanted a comfortable sporty daily driver that handled well and was FUN! I had an old Accord 5sp coupe ('97) that was good transportation but about as exciting as a pet rock. Living in the Northeast now, AWD or FWD was a consideration but not a hard requirement.

I had never driven the A/C before. The A/C 6sp is VERY fun to drive and an excellent value. Will it take on a V8 pony car, Vette, Z or any other "true" sports car- no nor do I expect it to. WIth that said, it is still pretty darn quick and with just a few mods it will get you more ticket than you ever wanted to pay!

If you won't take a bath on the deal, I'd do it... :shifter:

But then again, I am a pathetic car whore... :luck:

Just spend $900 and find a beat up late 80s Civic with a 5 speed if you wanna drive a manual so bad, you'll save a lot of money. Trading it in for the same exact car is kinda dumb, unless you really think changing gears is worth the extra few thousand dollars you'll lose on the trade in.

THIS

See picture in my sig. The ONE time that my car ever saw the track (at Carlise, years back because it was fun) As soon as my car hit the track, I knew it wasnt a sports car. I have driven a sports car, and my car is not one.
