Im removing emissions on my KA, just to clean up the bay a bit. Not turbo'ing anytime soon. Im following the KA-T SOHC tutorial. When I get to the SCV, I imagine that the intake needs to be off to get the butterflies out?

In order to save me a headache, can I remove the valve and leave the shaft and butterflies in??? how can I make sure they are in the open position??

I searched here and other forums for specifics on this to no avail...This is temporarily, I might taken off later down the road...

im not sure if its the same, but on the dohc if there is no vacuum then the butterflies are open. Also, on the dohc i notice the flaps are screwed on, so if they are the same, you should be able to take them off.

Thanks, I will try that. I got most of junk out and it really clears the clutter in the engine bay.

Take out the shaft and seal with hi-temp JB weld.Get new gaskets. You'll need a block off plate from ebay. Use seafoam and bottle-brush if you want to clean the carbon in the manifold.
