I was searching along and I found that Apex makes a full stainless steel 80mm front pipe that replaces the downpipe and the cat. I was thinking of either going with this or getting a Blitz SS downpipe and a high flow cat. Do you think there will be a huge improvement(Performance, power) by having the front pipe and no cat or will the gain be minimal compared to the high flow cat?Chris

go for the full pipe if you dont need a cat to pass inspection. otherwise get a downpipe and straight pipe so you can put your cat on when you need new stickers. and there will be next to nothing increase in noticable power with thoes mods. but its worth it when you backfire 20 times while some rich guy in a new m3 convertible with the top down is tailgating you :D

The cat helps controls pollutents.... and its illegal because then you would be polluting ;) Thats my non-tech explanation. Hehe.

Catalytic Converters (cats) take your exhaust stream and convert (gee!) some of the pollutants into not-so-polluting materials.

They need heat to work, which is why deisel engine cats arent as effecient.

Anyway, if you really want to know exactly how they work, Click Me.

In reality, removing your cat might gain you a few horsepower. A better option would be to have a muffler shop weld some flanges on the cat and then again on a test pipe. That way, you could scramble under your car, and remove the cat in a jiffy.

But, whatever you do, don't gut your cat. It doesn't do anything but cause turbulence in that giant, now empty chamber, and you will LOSE POWER without doing any favors to the environment.

Hope that helped. :ylsuper
