So basically i'm contemplating whether or not to keep my G35 or sell it for a gas friendly car. LAME huh? just with gas prices these days and the fact that GAS is a fossil fuel ( fossil key word takes a long as time to make and no time to waste ), dont see gas prices going down. I live in Cali so prices here are ridiculous *4.83* premium. I dont drive my car as much as i did wen i was back home. i go to college now down in LA and wont bring my car until next next year. So i need to decide whether to sell it FAST.

ANY comments or suggestions would be nice thanks :_)

That's a tough one.If it were me, I would make sure that I looked at all options. Is there any mass transit you can take advantage of and keep the G?I would put some numbers into a spreadsheet and look at them:

(Miles per month) (Price per Gallon) (MPG) COST = (Miles/MPG * Price per Gallon)

So,Something like this - ignore the top half

Using a spreedsheet you can see the impact of driving more/less.How much $$$ would you really be saving. Then, you need to figure out how long it will take to realize the costs involved in selling yours and buying another.

I'd vote to keep your G and here is why.

If you drive 12000 miles per year and you get 20 MPG with your G then 12k miles divided by 20 MPG = 600 gallons X $5 per gallon = $3000 per year for gas.

If you managed to get a vehicle that got 40 MPG then your yearly gasolinecost would drop to $1500 per year. So ask yourself what would you rather drive for an additional $1500 or so

Don't forget to include sales tax, registration fees, and any other losses on a sale of vehicles. The money you spent on mods probably could have gone for increased gas prices. I'm sure the gf will still go for happy endings in the G regardless of any mods? Your mileage may vary. Just my $.02

Good luck with your decision

I am sorry to say that I am not one to consider the economics of the G, eventhough it is an obvious reality. The first reason I bough the G-35 was for its looks and then power. After buying the G-35, I then realized how much fun was involved with the driving experience---Infiniti never made the fun driving experience a selling point--you only find out after-the-fact.

I will rather fill my tank with a $5.00 worth of premium gas and drive it for a 10 minutes in order to experience that fun even for a short while ---it is addictive--I will probably need emotional therapy if I ever sell my car---I cringe and become disturbed at the slightest whiff of such a thought. Thanks God that I have another car that is a daily driver.

So, for me, the decision is the fun factor. The car absolutely has no practical utility for me--my little nissan is my actual practical car. The G-35 Coupe is indeed a toy. I am prepared to walk to the gorcery store on foot, to buy grocery , and still have my G-35 Coupe in my garage, than sell it to save a few bucks. The thought of knowing that someone else will be making love to my G-35 Coupe on the roads and in their garage, will definitely set me in insane and paranoid. I will be scorned and irate.

So, ask yourself, what your car means to you, and why you bought it in the first place, and what you think of it today. I know this sounds carazy, but I don't know of another mid sized car that draws such an emotional response from its drivers like the G-35 Coupe--obviously there are other cars out there that do so--maybe much larger and much more expensive cars.

I doubt anyone here has to heart to tell you to sell the car--there maybe a few, but not many. Most of us here are die-hard G-35 Coupe owners.

You could make the daring switch to 87 or you could drive it more conservatively. Watch this, it might help you decide...

First off. Is the G payed for or close to being payed off? If it is then you need to see if the new car payment and the cost to fuel it will be equal to or less then the G. If it is equal to or more. Then keep the G.

My father-in-law was concidering the same thing w/ his Grand Marquie. (it is payed for) The cost of a new car plus the fuel was twice what he payed for just the fuel in his car. So he kept tghe Grand.

No matter how high gas prices go, I still need something quick & fun to drive... It's in my blood... If you don't NEED the $ you'll get for selling the G, I would def say keep it... Buy a cheap beater 4 cyl car or even better yet, a street bike... Then only drive the G when you feel the need... G's don't get that bad gas mileage when you think about it... An automatic Nissan Versa is rated 24mpg city/32 hwy... which i thought was horrible for a tiny car with a tiny motor... Its only 4-5mpg better than our G's and can't be anywhere near as fun or fast to drive... Is the $ saved worth sacrificing fun...

If you consider the cost of a new car, it will take years to break even with gas savings from a hybrid. You're better off keeping the G...unless you get a used POS, which needs to be as good on gas and not cost much over any equity you have with your G35.

Do the math like SVT mentions.

I say sell the G to someone that would never think of selling it for a 4banger!

haha thanks for all the advice the G is paid for and after doing some math it'll take 35ish years for the prius to pay off.... so no brand new prius for sure.

and awesome topgear clip 1jen, i've been recently driving my car really really economically. under 2.5k rpms, neutralling down hills, keeping distance from front traffic to advoid idling reds, and such. Helping my gas milage but what i notice is with all my mods.... i'm alot under the 20 mpg estimate... i get around 18 mpg when i drive insanely gas efficient.

now if i wanna have fun.... 15ish and a trip up the mountain near my house.... quarter tank. lol

Maybe i'll even consider getting a daily driver, possibly 240sx maybe (which isnt that gas efficient) but maybe a cheap 2 grand car to hull my *** around.

I average 19-20mpg daily driving with minimal hwy & have been using the a/c and revving 3-4k rpms between shifts... Getting a POS small 4 cyl car is prob your best bet, keep the miles down on the g and get better gas mileage... My first car was a 89 escort gt 5mt and I was getting close to 30mpg with that when I had it and it only cost me $350 but that was 5 years ago... buy a cheap 4 cyl 5spd or a bike

yah def. no bikes, but how do u get 19-20 with 3-4k revs in city?!?!?!, do my mod really mess wiht my mpg that much? MREV2 plenum spacers test pipes, intake? i'd imagine the intake help my gas milage.... anyways am i calculating my MPG all wrong? Our gas tanks hold 20 rihgt? so i always divide miles from full to empty by 20 but wenever i fill it its usually only around 17 or even 16 so is the g35's reserve tank that HUGE?!?!

Fill your tank up and zero out your mileage counter on your speedo. Then,Next time you fill up - take the mileage and divide it by the number of gallons you put in.

So, if the mileage counter shows 280 and you put in 13.4 gallons, then your MPG is 280 / 13.4 = 20.895

I'm a math major!! Got mad rythamatik skillz!

So then you are really getting better mileage than you think...

Most of us fill the tanks with 15-17 gallons each fillup!

if you were getting 20mpg on 20 gallons worth of gas that would be 400 miles per tank full... if you were getting 400 miles and then you filled up and put 17 gallons in the tank then you have 23.5 mpg

Presto instant fuel mileage!

Here's another tip...I've been keeping records of my MPG's for 6 months now. I've found that if I fill my tank up at 1/4 (about 300 miles), I get 1 MPG better than letting it go to empty!

For HWY/CTY I average 19-20 MPG and HWY 24-26 MPG.

Very odd thing I have noticed on my car.

I get better MPG's from a the 3/4 full tank mark to 1/2 tank then I do from the 1/2 tank to the 1/4 mark.

Ok...did that make sense

I just filled my tank today... I always set the trip odo when I fill up so I can see how many miles i get between fill-ups... When I pulled into the gas station today I was right about 300 miles on the trip. Filled it up with 16 gallons... 300/16=18.75mpg... That was with the a/c on pretty much all the time, suburb driving (not city & not hwy) & 3-5rpm revs between shifts... My first tank when I got the G I averaged 20mpg (no a/c at all, same driving & revs) so a/c does hurt mpg somewhat...
