OK, no one is interested in buying my Q; therefore, I will take it back east (coastal SC) and let it sit in the garage there during summer months, until real estate market gets better and I can sell one of the too many homes I own (I, for one, am not holding my breath on that one! Maybe Heath sees an improvement! Most folks do not!). Or, burn it (the Q that is!) before giving it away!

Anyway, I ordered a new Interstate (per recent thread) to replace 5 yr old IS that had served me well. We do not have a Sears store in current remote location, nearest one being 125 miles away. Car gets driven VERY infrequently, for many reasons. QUESTION: During these down times, is it best to take the cables off, or leave them on and put a trickle charger on the battery?

Thanks!

I think either option, trickle charge, or disconnecting is fine. Just wait until you start having daily injector failures... you'll really want to burn the car!

Cry babies it's been 47 days since I replaced an injector on my Q...........Over 6,662 days of perfect service previously!

Think of injectors as the new "plastic" chain guides.

...and, Dennis - other than your personabe and loving demeanor - what do you owe such longevity to (the Q, not yours!)? Could the religious use of Techron at each oil change, and, whenever possible, the use of Chevron gas, be contributing factors (I do this, but NO WHERE near the miles you have - THANK YOU LORD!)?

and after all those years of dennis preaching that the injectors are fine! Theyre now NOT fine because the crappy gas applies to everyone!

Trickle charger with new sythetic in the sump and fuel stabilizer always worked for me over a 6 month summer.

My guess is that the injectors, just like the knock sensors, develop small hairline cracks in their plastic bodies over time due to the poor design of underhood heat management which allows the ethanolised fuel to then destroy them.....the problem probobly starts with the hot underhood temps, especially after shutdown in the summer

My 1979 280zx had a nice factory installed blower that aimed cool air at the injectors and intake manifold that ran for about 20-30 minutes after engine shutdown depending on underhood temperatures{thermostatically controlled}

Wonder if adapting that old technology{ originally designed to prevent hard starts in hot weather due to vapor lock} could be adapted to Q to increase lifespan of underplenum hoses, knockers, injectors, wiring, etc?

You know, this may have had absolutely NO positive impact on my car, but, during the a/c use season, sdince owing the car, I would routinely pop the hood upon pulling into the garage! Or, if on the road, when pulling into rest stop (urination need dictating!). And, wonder of wonders and more astonishing, I convinced "she who must be obeyed (aka wife of 41 years, who, as German, first learned English from some of her tennis partners when they taught her to say "50-50 bubba") to do the same on her M30!

And, one other thing I have done, over the years, when the car is going to be sitting for a spell, is to spray lots of Armour All onto the rubber under the plenium. Have absolutely no idea if this has been beneficial at all, but, not looking forward to doing that job, and will take it over to T-3 whenever I begin getting those tell tail indicators such as gas odors, greenish fluid, etc. Or, burn it!

Armour All is not the best thing for rubber hoses............use special rubber treatments or at worst a tire treatment.

18 years and 4 months is good injector life to me, I cannot complain and was proactive enough to start collecting cheap brand new Nissan injectors starting in 2002 when I first read about others problems. I just assumed it would happen to mine [and all of Georgia] sooner or later.

Heck I even warned other over a year ago that it would happen. Even T3 didn;t believe me that it would happen withi 8 weeks of E10 use.

I'm concerned that they " MAY CONTAIN STICKER" doesn't mean every tank or every station.

AS the tank farm operators told me that they never get enough deliveries to assure 100% treatment.

With 1.5 miillion cars getting fuel that's ~~ 450,000 gallons of 100% ethanol required per day for blending........ 45 rail tanker cars per day

if constant power may be the culprit for the injectors, id say unhook the cables and hook up a trickle to the bat.

I can tell you that the constant 12V to the injectors isn't the problem after the damage has started... I have been unplugging the injector fuse on mine every time I park it in the garage, and they just keep ohming higher and higher every time I drive her.

If only the replacements would last the life of the engine... unfortunately we're having to replaced bad guides with more "plastic" guides in this case!

This is the sad reason I no longer own a 90-93 Q. I do miss it, but it had to go.
