Ok I am in suspension hiatus mode because my bushings havent arrived so while im waiting and the car is on the jack stands I am thinking about doin a transmission filter service, where I would pull the pan and replace the filter and any fluid i lost.( I have the pan gasget and filter already it was included in my 1200$ order from joe)

First question should I do this then get a transmission flush or

should I get it flushed then change the filter and clean the magnet.

I'd go with flush first, then do the pan drop. As long as the pressure reading at the flush machine is OK (indicating that you haven't clogged up the filter screen with stuff from chemical flush) you should be fine. Catch as much of it in the old screen before you put the new one in.

Of course if your line pressure is low, you'll want to replace the screen first, and then probably replace it again after the flush...

I agree, except it seems like overkill to have the car machine-flushed once in addition to doing your own fluid drain and gasket/filter change. If you do it all yourself you can do it now while waiting for parts.

The reason i want to do the flush is to get all the nooks and crannies with the cleaning solution and I want to change the filter because god knows how longs its been I just want the super clean transmission

Overkill maybe interms of dollars, but the fluid can never be clean enough.

I'd think the opposite would be a better idea.

Cleaning the pan gets the residue that has settled because of gravity, and a flush machine may stir up some of that residue? Most of it would be removed, but some may stay in after the flush and not settle to the bottom again??

Also, you can use generic ATF to top off the trans after removing the pan, then get it flushed a few months later with Mobil 1 ATF at $5-6/qt.

Flush first. Then filter. This way dirt thats now loose in the pan can come out.
