I bought my versa in 7/06 and never got the extended warranty cuz i thought i had enough time, well 35886 miles later hear we are at the final countdown and i'm still conflicted.I think anything that is going to happen will happen after 100000 miles, but you never know?

This is one of those subjects you will get a lot of opposing veiws.

When you buy or don't buy any kind of extended warranty in can be a gamble either way. I bought one on my 05 CRV as they have had a plethoria of problems with the AC compressors. One day at the dealer I drive for I saw two of the CRVs with ac compressor problems. One had a hole the size of a quarter in the side of it and was an over $2000 almost complete rebuild of the ac unit.

I know there or these financial guru types that will say put the money in a interest earning account and don't buy it. The warranty I bought cost around $800 dollars which can be cheap compared to some of the repairs to these newer vehicles. You can always cash it in if you get rid of the vehicle early. Granted you will not get the whole amount back but most of it depending on your claims after the regular warranty expires.

Another question would be why buy it when the car is new. These obvious reason would be these warranties go up just like everything else.

I always buy the Extended Warranty since I keep my rides for at least 5 years. I just don't want to worry about the expense of replacing a transmission, etc. down the road. Over the years - I've only owned one car where necessary repairs didn't cover the cost of the extended warranty. My 2004 Frontier has only cost me $250+- (last week) for a turbo charger belt which is normal wear and tear. I have a little less then two more years to recover my extended warranty expense (smile) on my Frontier. My Versa is still toooo new to hit the extended warranty. I know they say to put your money in the bank and collect the interest until you need a repair - I just don't have the discipline to do that!

in general if one were gonna keep the car forever, and it was a 10yr/100k miles warranty, and you were putting 10k miles a year on the car, then yeah, i'd THINK about getting it.

but if YOU, in particular, keep it up your car will only be 4-5 years old when you hit 100k miles. you've got to be doing a ton of highway mileage which is a breeze for modern cars.

i've never bought an extended warranty. but i have a company car and have sold my last two personal cars while they were still under warranty...

my wife has put 8k miles on the versa in 4 mo's. we've got a 2k mile road trip coming up. we'll see how the car is doing around 30k miles but i'll doubt we'll buy the warranty.

the reality is you'll always get a few guys that will say, "i bought one and thank God I did 'cause this happened". well, car manufacturers offer warranties because they make a TON of money on them because the majority of people never need the warranty, whether they buy them or not.

With extended warranties, like anything else, you have to read the fine print. A lot of people are under this (false) assumption that an extended warranty is bumper to bumper, and/or covers "anything major." You have to comb through the exclusions with a magnifying lens, and so many times you find that the kind of stuff that tends to go wrong is excluded.

Everyone is different in deciding whether or not to choose an extended warranty. I have never bought one in my life and made out fine, but that's just me. I am also one of those guys who read all contracts backwards and forwards, and I have found many things like extended warranties not sounding all that useful afterwards.
