So I changed the oil in the G this weekend, as it was due for it's 7500 mile oil change. Since I bought the G, I decided to make the investment and purchase high quality oil for the car. I know the manufacturer suggests using 5W30 in the car, but since I live in a HOT climate, I purchased a case of Royal Purple 10W30 for the summer months. Without thinking about it, I just filled it with 10W30 and went on about my day. My concern is that since we are coming into cooler months where I live, will the 10W30 Fully synthetic provide enough protection to my engine or should I switch now to the 5W30 and waste the money I spent on the expensive 10W30? Will the 10W30 Provide enough engine protection that I don't need to be concerned. Opinions appreciated!

Nissan recommends 3750 mile or 90 day change intervals if longevity beyond warranty is at all important to you. 7500 or 180 days[ not 7501 or 181 days] is the absolute maximum interval with written documentation to prove* to maintain warranty in effect.

* Any 3rd party written letterhead receipt showing oil/filter types and quanity, vin, mileage, date and signed by offical of shop.

So many try to pass purchase receipts for oil/filter which is not proof the work was done on a specific car or even done period.

I'm sorry, but I failed to explain that this was my second oil change... I had Infiniti perform the 2500 mile oil change as well as this 7500 mile oil change this weekend as recommended. I keep impecable service records and have the technician sign my service log each time. My question was directed at the topic of "will the 10W30 provide ample protection to my engine components or should I switch to the 5W30 to adhere to manufacturer specifications?"

And yes to Q45tech... I do care about longevity after warranty, that's why I'm asking these questions.

I'd go back to 5/30 but you already know what I think LOL.

Look in your owners manual. It tells you to use 10w30 and 5w30 at different temps. If I remember correctly, both were just fine at extremely cold weather.

My opinion is to change oil yourself every 3k to 3.5k miles. Car oil bibles mentions that you can have problems with seals when using synthetic oil. Why spend so much money on oil that you only need to keep for 3k miles?I believe changing oil frequently is more beneficial for long engine life than spending 6 bucks a quart for synthetic. If you visit a shop that works on engines it is quite clear when dropping an oil pan to see who has changed oil regularly and who has not.One of the Infiniti techs showed me an oil pan where the owner had never changed the oil. I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of it. Maybe someone else has a picture of an oil pan filled with black sludge?

Just my opinion

Cool months??? You should be fine with what you have unless you'll be doing a lot of startups at 3am in the desert.
