Im up to the part in my build where i need to decide on what to do with my bottom end and have reached a crossroads. I was going to go CA18 but I also have in my possesion a CA20 Tomei crank & Flywheel and a CA20 block. I seem to change my mind everyweek with what i wanna do, im more inclined to go CA18 because its a much easier route but at the same time a CA20 "Big Block" would be baller but would be more hassle.

Help me!!

The problem is CA20 rods. They are weak as piss. Ask anyone here in Australia that knows anything about Nissan engines and they will tell you CA20's throw rods. You would have to source some after market rods. Then it would haul a**. There would be a bit of stuffing around with the timming belt, gears etc. On the whole very doable only a bit of stuffing around to get it all together.

If you run the CA block then it's no biggie. If you try to run the CA20 block, then you'll have to get custom rods and figure out a timing belt.

When I came in here I seriously thought you were going to run a SPOOL crank (87.6mm) and 84.5mm pistons. I was all "hells yeah! Guinea pig!!" I had completely forgotten about the TOMEI kit. Go for it broseph.

Build something like that in your spare moments. The CA18DET is easily referenced and can put out more than enough of whatever you're looking for once you get it revved up. I say, bang-out a CA18DET for all that you can and work with the CA20 project in your extra time.

I was goin to do the frankenstein setup where id use the mitsubishi gsr rods and honda b20 pistons as it has been done before, i did not plan to use the match stick CA20 rods.

I am also considering selling the Tomei crank and flywheel and buying the Spool stoker crank, simply because the spool crank is full counter weight and the tomei crank isnt.

Yeah, but the SPOOL crank is hella expensive. Stick with the Tomei, at least you know it can be trusted.

It would be interesting to compare the weight of the tomei and spool cranks..

I would love to know the quality and everything. $1550 is a lot to shell out without any firsthand experience available.

Well the Tomei crank and flywheel cost me more than the spool crank unfortunetly. Plus i weighed the tomei crank today and it came in at around 12.5kg but it has been knife edged so its a lil lighter.
