Hey my friend is selling his 240sx hatchback, he said he'd give it to me for 2 grand. It has 156000 miles on it and is all stock and pretty kept up. I really like the looks of the car but im a college student who needs something reliable and Im kinda hesitant since the car is 11 years old. Any suggestions on what I should do. I can take some pics of it if that will help. Also whats with the non power sunroof and it doesnt lift up all the way either thats kinda lame, i mean its cool that you can take it all the way off but i'd get tired of doing that. Is there anyway that it can be converted to power or something. Thanks in advance.

240's are very reliable, usually going 200k+ miles without much major service (sometimes the timing chain rattles and needs to be fixed). If you aren't sure, get it checked out by a mechanic, and if that checks out then get it. $2000 is a fair price I think if it's in good condition.

Please...156000 is chump change for the ka.

I'd say get it, if its been treated as well as you say it has, it will last you (with proper maintenance of course). The only thing that would worry me would be the timing chain, which can be replaced for around 400 dollars and a day of your life (this is doing it yourself btw).

yeah, that isnt old for an s13. mine has more miles and lots of track time and runs perfectly.i wouldnt try anything funny with that sunroof. it would most likely only cause problems.-Enzo

I would talk him down a little. But its well worth it for 2K. Just watch for timing chain rattle.

I would take it, no question about it.I paid 2k for my 89 and it was well worth it.personally, i dont think 2k is a bad price at all.

maybe it's just me, but I couldn't pay that much for a car that old.

My hatch is a 90 model w/ 78k miles (79k now) i paid $900 for it, and when i paid taxes to register it on the book value it was a little under $1300.

But maybe that's just here in ky or something, iunno...

Then you got a CRAZY good deal... I got mine for 1200 and the paint was funky and it had a several dents that Im having to pull... Alot depends on where you live... I think one could make a nice living buying 240s in Oregon and selling them in California...

Biggest thing, make sure its 5 speed!

make sure your friend kept the car in good shape with regular maintenance..

156K miles could be alot or little all depending on how he treated the engine

I second that, mileage makes almost no difference whatsoever as long as the car has been regularly maintained and kept up to par.

I had a 1980 toyota pickup with 233k miles that was routinely tuned and it ran, well, better than my KA is running right now...
