I was inches from buying a super clean 06 M45 with 60k miles until I started doing research and found people talking about oil consumption issues and having to have engines replaced. My initial research using sites like MSN Autos and Edmunds appeared to indicate that many people loved their cars and would even recommend one. Thus, the research appears to be mixed as far as long term reliability is concerned. The car is still available and just wanted to ask the basic question to those who either own one or know a lot about them whether they would recommend buying one or stay away and find something else.

Thanks.

If you are worried about the engine issues...just get an M35. Plenty of car for the average person.

I believe its luck of the draw... Yes many have had engine consumption issues but not all! 06-07 more so than 08+ and prior engines as well... Like the last Q45s, many g35s... Etc. I would say if you have records and know who you're buying from and are confident enough buy WITH an Infiniti elite warranty!! At 60k miles it shouldn't be too expensive!! You'll love the M45 for sure... If its fully loaded with advanced tech packages and sport package AND all of the previously mentioned issues are cleared, I would!! If its the base model its just not that enticing... Bottom line!! :gotme

How many miles on yours?

Also, it would be interesting to put together a list showing the number of miles people are reaching with their cars. Does a list like this already exists?

according to the statistics (albeit small sample size) 2006/2007 Ms (don't know how many are 45s vs 35s) have fewest repairs compared to other years and when compared to competitors, eg. Audi, BMW, etc but if you get a log on, you can view other owner's mileages and repairs that were done.

btw 2006 M45 with almost 69k miles--no probs at all, except for a dead battery (bought it used in 2010 with 41k, and the original battery hadn't been replaced) lots of torque! but the 35 ain't no slouch....

60K miles is nothing for these cars. I think you should think about if you are ready to pay extra for gas, but other than that I don't think you will regret it.

Yeah yeah some of the cars do have frequent failures but which car maker does not ?!!?

I personally rather have an engine go (easy fix - replace engine) than have a german car with electrical gremlins that will takes weeks and many visits to the dealer to track down/pinpoint (if they even find it). We've all heard the German Electrical horror stories. Probably end up costing the same either way.

My opinion, buy the M45 if it's a good price and has good packages and also buy an Elite Warranty from Circle or Scottsdale Infiniti for like $2k or whatever and be worry free while enjoying a thirsty yet powerful V8.

about to hit 60k in my m45 within a month. 0 problems so far outside of a routine oil change.

Well, I picked her up today. I think I researched it to the nth degree and decided to go for it. I called the local Infiniti dealer (it was being offered by a Hyundai dealer) and verified the 60K service had already been performed and their records showed no signs of past issues. I also grilled them on the M45 in general and the guy I spoke to (who claims to have been there for over 10 years) said he had never heard of engine issues on an M. I wound up purchasing a 4 year 48K mile warranty for piece of mind. Thanks for the advise and I will post updates as time goes on so others will have another data point to go by.

Congrats and welcome to the M family.

You say you bought a 4 year warranty, is it an Elite warranty from Infiniti or just a 4 year warranty that the Hyundai dealer offered you?

If it isn't the Elite, cancel it and get the Elite. The Elite covers EVERYTHING and you won't have to worry if you bring your car to the dealer if the problem will be covered. You should have 30 days to cancel without a problem.

Good luck

This.

DO yourself a favor and get the Elite. The FAQ thread that is stickied in the main forum has the information for the two dealerships/people our members go through. These two ladies (I think Daniella has been replaced) know about this place and have helped a LOT of members get the best pricing on the Elite warranty.

Congrats!! I'm sure you're loving the mad torque already!!! But do cancel your no name warranty and get ELITE!! You do have 30 days to get 100% back although it might have been financed now you'll get a check back and you can buy the ELITE outright in cash!! :bigthumb:

I called Circle Infiniti this morning to get a quote on their 4 yr/48K warranty and was quoted almost $3100. The warranty I purchased from the Hyundai dealer was the highest coverage warranty they offer. I worked them pretty hard for it and it cost me $1645 with a $50 deducible. It is called their Hi-Tech warranty. It covers everything including all the high tech electronics (Nav, DVD players, camera, cooled seats...). This dealer has been in business for long time and is very reputable. I'm not limited to any particular dealer, in fact I can go to the Infiniti dealer for repairs if I want. Also, just before I left I got to meet the Hyundai service manager and it just so happens that he lives about 8 houses down from me. I'm still going to research it a little more, but I think I might just keep the one I already have.

Let me try to clear it up for you a little.

Best warranty for your Infiniti is the Elite Warranty by Infiniti. It's almost bumper to bumper. It doesn't have to be broken in order to get it fixed. You get a loaner if any job takes more than 1 hr. All replacement parts will be coming from Infiniti not pep boys or autozone.

To get the best prices on the Elite Warranty you should be calling 2 people:

Courtney Mutema @ Infiniti Of Scottsdale (Arizona)
Phone: 480-295-4174

Daniella Krasnopolsky @ Circle Infiniti (New Jersey)
Phone: 732-567-5547

If someone else picks up the phone call back until you get in contact with Daniella or Courtney.

Daniella gave me the best price but I don't know if she's still selling the Elite warranty. I have referred about 30 people to her in the last 1.5yrs while never getting a penny.

I hope this helps & Good luck on your choice

Bought my 2006 M45 2 years ago with 54,000 miles for only $25,000 and bought the Elite extended warranty. I too was concerned about oil consumption issues but I now have 102,000 and I have a heavy foot but no issues yet. A few small issues but nothing over $200 bucks and just had 100,000 mile service and still running perfect. I even average 19.2 mpg and this is the best sleeper in the world. Can't tell you how many young kids I surprised just messing with from time to time. Enjoy and you will never buy anything but Infiniti now.

To bad i don't have a warranty. I bought an 06 M45 at 72k and replaced the engine at 88.3k from an 08 with 8k miles. The other day after racing a Charger RT I had a misfire with a code. I replaced the spark plug from #7 but the old fell to the bottom of the car while pulling out and I haven't found it yet. Now I have an occasional rough idle. No warranty and still pin pointing with no codes.
