i dont know if anyone cares but i am between a rock and a hard place. my wife finally got a J-O-B and i am allowed a small amount for a project car. i want a 240sx(hence the name s13sr20chris) and she thinks the 240 is two ugly. she says my choices are twin turbo z or an old 280zx. the twin turbo is only an option because my sister offered to sell me hers. all of my friends have been smoked by my sis in her hooked up 300 and they say i should get it. i still have my heart set on a 240. i originally intended to go high port sr20 with around 250hp at the wheels and serious suspension/tires/diff. now that sr20's are like expensive i am looking really hard at the rb20 and rb25. i would still have the same car setup but with more bottom end, more potential hp, higher redline, exotic engine(re: pain in the butt to find parts:)), and about the same price. finally...

...what does everyone think? i dont care if you are a complete retard; i want your opinion.

by the way, i am a poor nissan dealer tech. will trade helpfull fsm info, tech bulletins, or whatever for spare parts and stuff. ok, i give it up for free, but if you have excess...

One thing to ponder:

300Z's turbos are as expensive to maintain ,as an early Infiniti Q45.

Well I am probably considered a complete retard when it comes to this because I'm still very new to 240s and the nissan world but I'll try to be some help without letting my ignorance get the best of me. Here goes, Im guessing that the 240 you're talking about and also the one your wife finds ugly is the s13. Although I don't see the s13 as a bad looking car, I myself am a fan of the s14's and I say you shoot for one of those. If she says they're ugly, then I'm stumped. An s14 should be in your price range if you're considering a tt 300zx, because even from your sister I can' see it being cheap. A nice s14 can be had for 4k with some detective work, and even easier if you have a little more to spend. Also as far as I know your upgrade options should also be about the same. You can still swap in an rb or sr, and upgrade suspension, tires, etc. Just my .02.....

^ I always hear that from people who don't own a 300zx. I want to hear opinions of the car from someone who was a owner of one to prevent any biased answers. I would try to tell her how much cheaper the 240sx will be to buy, maybe the money part of the deal rather than the sex appeal will help her change her mind.

yeah, good stuff. thanks guys. i know for a fact the z is expensive to maintain. i am in the middle of replacing the injector harnesses, coil harnesses, and all under plenum hoses right now. i have also put one of its many clutches in and replaced the p/s pressure line(had to drop subframe:( ). thats just the recent stuff. it really needs a lot more(m/t overhaul, new turbos, etc.) it has been abused. on the up side, it already has exaust, reprogrammed ecm, intake, boost upped a few pounds, and stainless brake hoses. the parts are all stillen but i would rather have had jwt. anyway, you guys rock for helping out so much.

Well if you want to keep your wife then you should not listed to some of these people.LOL I have been maried 6 years and you have to value the other half's opinion. If you disagree then you must build a case and present it in a tactfull mannor. It sounds like she has some good taste though.I mean its not like she wants him to get a civic or mustang or something. Not to diss the 240sx but a 300zx is a really good looking car.I say go for the TT Z.She won't be able to complain about it being expencive to mod or mataine because it was her choice!;)

I would say get whatever makes you happy man... Cause everytime you see a 240sx you are gonna probably get pissed at your car and your wife... that **** will dwell on you if you don't get what you want i'm telling ya man!

And I'm married so you can take my advice .... originally I was going to buy a jeep wrangler but she didnt like it ... and I listened to what she had to say and then we kindof met in the middle and got a s13 she loves the car but not as much as I do....

And believe me ... everytime I see a nice Jeep wrangler I think... man wtf I wanted one of those but cause of my lovely wife I don't have one damnit!

I agree with Fiznat totally .. put your foot down a bit! I mean really .. who is driving the car??? And if I had wanted to I could have told my wife to shutup and bought the jeep anyway but I ended up test driving the 240 and falling in love with it... so it worked out in the end in my situation.

just my $.02

:drooling

Old school 280zx=cheap to make fast. hard to find a really nice example, but there's joy in restoring one to it's deserved pristine condition.

some women would be totally against the idea of their significant other getting a project car in the first place. and the choices given, aren't bad at all! good luck with your decision! :)

heh, my wife's tryin to make me sell my car to get a minivan...

agh, "I can fit 2 child seats in the back & save on gas mileage!"

until this car starts rising up against me, it'll be mine till it rust itself apart from nyc's salted roads

I would put my foot down at a minvan. Fortuantely my wifes hates em too. My wife is pretty lenient on what I buy. She doesnt care. But, everyones wife is different. If my wife said I want you to get a 300zx TT not s 240, I would be like Yes Ma'am. It is just a car. There is more to life. I would personally drive anything my wife wanted me too (besides a minvan). And if she recommended a sports car, well **** what is the problem??? Is a cheap *** 240 really worth an arguement...me thinks not. You may think so though

I have done a fair amount of work on 300Z TT's. I even built one with 422WHP! At 17PSI. A 240sx would be much better for a person who is not a tech and does not have a huge bank!

look around twinturbo.net and look at those prices that those guys paid for HP!

Tell her how nice and large the back of an S13 hatch is with no backseat :D The front seats fold FLAT backwards too, very nice stuff there.

I personally think there would be a huge market for perfomance minivans, or atleast better versions of the wagons, like the Protege 5 and Matrix and such.

i decided that i love my wife more than the car. i will get what she wants. then she said get what you want. im like woo hoo! now to find one before she changes her mind. when she graduates law school she will be making more money even if i am promoted to shop foreman. somehow i dont think that will equate to even more money allotted to my projects. thanks again fellas

Well, my only thought I can add is that if she loves and supports you, she will understand and support your decisions about what should be YOUR project. Now if a woman like this actually exists, I going to marry her. Well, that and she has to do laundry. I'll cook before I have to do laundry.

No wife, women are the devi. Stay single and you'll have at least a small part of your sanity. They tell you they love you, cheat on you, you forgive them, you fall in love, and they decide they don't want you anymore and then act like you don't have any reason to be upset when you go crazy because of it all. WOMEN=THE DEVIL, just like fooseball!

i don't mean to argue but as far as now goes i disagree. i hope my mind changes one day but i have my doubts, but we'll see. anyways, this isn't really the place for a discussion about love heartbreak so i'll let it go, thanks for the advice though, i appreciate it
