So I'm getting my '10 G37 Sedan tinted tomorrow and I've been kicking around the idea of going with 20% or 35% all around. My previous Maximas were 35% but the cars were dark and they both had black leather interiors so the tint appeared to be darker than it really was. The G is blue slate with stone interior so I'm feeling like the 35% may look too light during the day. Anyone in the Baltimore/Annapolis/Ft. Meade area running around with 20%? Any issues with the police?

Matt

It was MANY years ago, but I was stopped more than once in 2 weeks with a car that had 20% on the drivers & pass windows.

Got stopped in the most random place the first time. He was polite, ticketed me, and then got stopped on Ritchie HWay the 2nd time and he was very unhappy, I hadn't fixed the issue and had the car re-inspected in the 4 days since the 1st stop. The 3rd time was more like the 1st.

But I did have to remove the tint ... I sold the car before I bothered getting 35% put back on the drivers/pass windows.

Hello Matt

Welcome to NICO

I'm one of the old farhts here. I believe never to do anything to a vehicle that will make it stand out to the police or anyone else. No tint no bumper stickers, hanging dice, nothing. The only exception is I put the small local police stickers on the rear window that they send in the mail for contributions. I know these police contribution stickers can help sometimes.
Just my $.02

Thanks,

I don't know, I've never had issues with cars being tinted before. Personally I think the tint makes for a nice look, but striking the balance between nice looks and drawing too much attention is hard to find sometimes. With dark leather interior, 35% would be almost a no brainer, but with this stone interior I'm just not sure. I think I'll go with 20% on the rear and 35% around the the driver/passenger front and back.

I have 20% on mine and it isn't much darker than 35% in all reality. I have yet to be pulled over for Tint on any of my cars. Most people that get pulled over for illegal tint were doing something else wrong to begin with or the police already know the background/history of persons inside. That info is coming from 'da man' himself.

I agree with Telcoman, stay legal!
I have legal tint on my G and have never had an issue.
I think going too dark also causes safety issues with driving at night.

Hey, while we are on safety issues, I can not stand blacking out tail lights either!!!! :nono:
I think it's a big safety issue!!! OK, sorry, I'm done.

I have a 2010 sedan with graphite shadow paint and stone interior. I went with carbon tint, 35% on the front doors and 18% on the rear doors and back window. When it was done I had the front door tint checked with his meter and it came out to 28%, because of the slight tint that was already in the glass. The Florida code is 28% for the front door glass, so I am legal.
I was going to get 35% all around but he talked me into the 18%. I'm glad he did. You don't stick out in Florida, with darker tint on windows. It is the norm here, because of the year round intense sun.

It depends on where you live whether or not you're gonna have a problem.

I have 20% up front and 5% back windows and rear windshield as well as the visor strip. I have been stopped only once for it in over 3 years. That is UTAH, and ARIZONA (Utah tint law is 43% max for front windows).

No problems over here. :D

I've decided to go with 20% all around. I had 20% in a previous Maxima and was never pulled over. I talked to my fiance's friend who's a cop in Annapolis, and he pretty much said that in most parts of MD where I live, the police won't pull you over JUST for your tint, but I should be prepared to receive an additional fine if I'm pulled over for some thing else. Having received one speeding ticket in the last 10 years I think I'm going to take my chances. Pix to come!

Just go as dark as what is legal. They can't give you a ticket for having a legal tint. Certainly, if you are causing a reason to get pulled over, then they will. If the cops are that big of pricks out there, then go with what feels good. I don't even know what the max % is here in CO...I could look it up, but that requires more movement of the mouse than I am physically capable of right now

When I got mine, I had them do it as dark as the law allows. Mine is slate blue as well, and it matches up very nicely.

i have 35% all around with graphite interior and it is perfect. it does not seem too dark. I had the same on my Audi and my mom's M35 and never had a problem with the law. In California, you can't tint the front at all.

Got the tint done.. I went with 20% all around.. Here's some shots.. IMHO It really doesn't look that bad with the stone interior reflecting light back through the car.

Why do you have a plate holder on your front bumper, if you don't have a license plate?

I do have a license plate, the numbers are just rubbed out to protect the innocent :-)
