I recently purchased a 2007 Nissan Versa Hatchback. I've notice the tmps symbol light is on . but the sales agent said the just put air in the tires and forgot to reset the light.

They reset it , I got the car, but 2 days later the light was back on!!! Went to a Nissan dealer here in Sumter and they said the pressure in the tires was low-29 when it should be 36. They put air in the tires and that was it.

Thought that maybe when I bought it they did not put air in the tires after all and went home. A day later the light is back on...I don't know what to do now. What could cause it? The tires are ok, they checked them and I don't have any nails in them. When I start the car the light is not blinking for a minute it's on-steady from the begining. I read in the manual that if it is blinking the tmps is the problem.

I would appreciate any advise, ideas you have for me.

Thanks

ahhhhhhh the dreaded tire light (P.I.T.A. light) what it actually sounds like to me is that they did not look the tires over properly (been known to do that myself) and look for pinhole leaks that let air out of the tire slowly, could also be that the valve core in the TPMS stem is not fully seated (hand tight ONLY) or that the TPMS monitor nut and stem are leaking ( torque specs is 11in. lb.). tire light can also be caused by weather temp changes from hot to cold.

When the light start to flash at you it means 1 of three things1. tires over pressurized2. tires flat/under-pressurized below sensor reading spec.3. Bad monitor, or maybe other part of the TPMS system went bad/damaged.

they said they looked for pineholes, because if i would have had any I would have paid for reparing the tires, otherwise the car is still under factory warranty so they need to pay for any other issue that is not casued by accidents or simply using the car.

So could be that sensor thing you were mentioning about? i don't get how I can loose so much pressure in the tiers in a week. theyput air in them at the dealership that I bought from and a week later I had 28-29 in my tires. I a week!

On monday again-same scenario, Air in the tires - on Tuesday low pressure light on! really strange...

Thanks for your advise.

I would say you have a leak someplace. NO you should not loose that much air in a week.... a year maybe.

I would also look at the TPMS them-self and the valve-cores. if not maybe you picked up a nail.

Take some soapy water solution then spray, or pour over uncapped valve stem and around where it comes from the rim. You will then look for small bubbles. If the bubbles come from the base, the outer nut that holds the sensor in the wheel is loose. If bubbles come from the inside (core) area the core is loose or bad. No result, they missed something in the tread or around the wheel bead area and should replace or repair the tire as long as you have documentation of this from the time of delivery.

or since I'm a little late to this party you already have it fixed.

i was wondering what u found out.. i have been having issues with my, what i call, "butt" light as well and am going to have to take it into the dealer as soon as i have some days off work.

First time i saw it come on, i thought that was what it looks like as well as being a pain in the butt.. lol

i cant get the stupid light to go off and have followed all the directions i have read online for filling the tires up with air. I am hoping some have some suggestions to what could possibly be wrong. the tires aren't losing air, but the light doesn't go off!

DO NOT bring it into the dealer, they will charge you at least $125 dollar to get it fixed. All you should do is bring it into Discount Tire air tire check, and ask them to reset your TPMS. They connect a device into your OBDII connector and reset it. They will do it for free!

appreciate it, but my car is still under warranty so it is free anyway

otherwise my hubby would be figuring it out for me, altho he may anyway.. i found another thread on the NICO site that gives a lot of detail on this problem, and am gonna have him read up on it. I Hate making time to go to the dealer when it might be something simple that we can do.

thanks again for the info!

I had the same issue where the thing would not go off but I was at the recommended air level.

1. Turn Car off2. Put 41 PSI in each tire3. Drive for a few minutes4. Turn car off5. drive few minutes and now it should go off.4. Lower the tire pressure to 35-38.

was you versa used or brand new?

if used you may have to get the sensor refurbished with new grommets/seals which Discount Tire does.

PS: Why are the stems silver/grey color instead of black? They stick out like a sore thumb. on black rims especially.

Wal-mart has the resetting tool as well, they charge $20 for the TPMS reset.

i bought it new in 2008. This isn't the first time i've had this issue either. It was about this same time last year, and i took it to the dealer, after hubby had filled it to the proper air and the light didn't go off. I don't know what they did, but they got the light to go off.

This time hubby has tried filling it to over 40, and then back down, but the light hasn't gone off. He is about ready to take the bulb out.. lol

You might just need to get them reprogram by the dealership or a tire place.

ya i tend to agree... it is time for an oil change and tire rotation.. i may see if it corrects after all of that has been done and tire pressures checked AGAIN. Very frustrating tho!

thanks all!

THe stems and the nut around it are aluminum. I suggest you be very careful as a new valve stem is over $100.

well if you can believe this, the stupid light was off when i prepared to leave for work yesterday morning. Nothing more was done, i typically drive 60-70mph highway during my daily commute, so i know it wasn't just the fact that i hadn't gone "fast" enough to trigger the light to go off. Talk about frustrating !!!

Don't get me wrong, i'm glad the stupid thing is off, but it should operate the way it is supposed to !!!

Thanks everyone for your input. Hopefully i will have nothing further to add. LOL

I've had this issue after I had some aftermarket Discount Tire TPMS rebuilt kit installed in my stock wheels. The light never went out after driving over 20 MPH. They reset the TPMS for free, then it came on again after a week or two.

May have to get it reprogrammed at the dealer, or just use black electrical tape to cover it up.
