I'm currently parting out my 240 (sadly) but I was wondering if I have to stay current with the registration for the car if the shell is going to end up in the junk yard?

Thanks for any information.

Honestly, a lot of states want you to have a vehicle registered even if it's not on the road, but I've never heard of anyone actually having an issue with letting it lapse... Just keep the car in the garage or the backyard.

It should be current if its on the roads. If not then there really shouldnt be a problem.

Make sure you mail in your tags, that's all. Otherwise you'll have to pay a bunch of fines.

The fines are exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Thank you all!

Some states require a cover over the vehicle if it isn't registered, also.

I think that's a state by state thing. Here in hickville we can keep the tags.

In NJ and PA they'll hunt you down and shoot you if you dont keep your registration current. Illinois is reasonably easygoing.

No, you are required by law to mail them in no matter what state.

What matters is whether or not your local DMV enforces that or not.

Well that's dumb. Here when you get a new plate you pay an extra fee. You can transfer the plate from one car to another. The plate doesn't even have to have a current registration. Doing this saves you the New plate fee.

Wonder why they don't fine people for doing this with an expired plate/registration?
