Well I'm talking to this guy on craigslist, he has an 89 hatch in pretty good condition. But he has lost the title so how much does it cost to get a second title? or can a do a bill of sale?

Any help is appreciated

I know some states used to not require a title after a vehicle was older than a certain age. That might have changed, and either way, I don't know about SC anyway. You should probably call your local PD or DMV (if they aren't a bunch of a** hats) and ask them.

I wouldn't even think about buying it. There isn't much you can do unless you can find out what happened to the title and get in touch with the last person to have the title in their name. Trust me, I had the same problem with my Maverick. If it doesn't have a title, move on to something else.

I agree. Never buy a car without a title. Make the seller get a duplicate title. If you buy it without a title and it turns out to be stolen or has a lien against it, you're pretty much hosed.

Yea I was gunna see if he could do that but if he won't then it's prob stolen. We have alot of people down here all of a sudden steal cars and try to sell them.

Word! The seller knows more of the car's history than you do. It should be easier for him to get a new title. If he's not willing to look into it, then he's probably a shady guy...
