Titanium Muffler weights 7lb, carbon fiber weights 4.7 lb i am trying to get a muffler and do a custom piping, and i saw both of those mufflers on the ebay...(yeah ebay) they both are Apexi N1 style muffer, i wonder if anybody have them install on their car or know how they sound like........titanium looks a lot better, but carbon fiber weights less.....any opinion would be great, thanx...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...39864

Either one will sound slightly different on any car you put it on. Since the weight difference is only 2.3 lbs. I would go with whichever one I felt had the most aesthetic appeal. In my experience, any muffler like that you find on e-bay or any other site for that cheap is gonna sound sub-par. I bought a similar one for my S-13 and was faily disappointed. You get what you pay for, and I'd bet on either one sounding pretty ricey. (sorry, prolly not what u wanted to hear).

Why not consider stainless? BRM makes a nice system for the 240...

Just a thought.

They're clean - mandrel-bent, 2.5", stainless, with the BRM logo laser-engraved on the tailpipe...

Somebody needs to convince Rex to make a 3 inch or larger version, now that would be sweet :)

Ha Ha Ha! I don't understand spending a sh***oad of money for a muffler. Bling Bling!Weight reduction? Ditch the 50lb speaker box! No offense, but titanium and carbon fiber are lightweight, yes, but it's an out of control trend, and it's not going to impress the guy who just passed you in the slow lane. And not to defer you from your purchase, but I don't believe you can weld titanium to steel or ss (Correct me if I'm wrong). PUT DOWN THE SUPER STREET!

For what vehicle?

No real need for 3" piping, but if you want it, I'll make sure it gets built. Let me know what car and what application, and let's get it ordered!

Well see Greg, I want 3 in. piping because I have a turbo...but I really couldn't afford the BRM exhaust anyway, I'll probably have to just get a muffler shop to weld up a turbo back system for me. But I do really like the look of the BRM product, it's not "ricey".

Edit, for my 240 :)

First of all learn how to spell...dang.....LOL...

FYI . Carbon Mufflers do hold up well...check out the bike scene..GP MOTO in fact they have a higher tensile rating thanalloy or steel.

i agree put down the RICEY MAGS. Research..and more research

Look dad!!! It's a "Powered by Honda" mustang...:thinker

heres an imitation hks cf-ti muffler.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33636

looks pretty good, if ur into this sorta thing, but i bet its gonna sound ricey on NA.

and heres a real universal HKS CF-Ti mufflerhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...29176

i think this will actually provide some decent power gains on a turbo'd 240 with 3" piping throughout the whole system.

NOt too well, so I am guessing the good companies like hks must have an internal shield for it.

The CF is just a sleeve for looks. It's not the primary component of the exhaust.

Not much sense in just replacing the muffler (unless it's just for the sound and the look) *ahemriceahem*

Better off with a full mandrel-bent system (or even just a catback) specifically fabricated for your ride... Function over form, baby!

Amen to that...and an ebay muffler will probably not sound the best either, especially not on a NA car ;) I heard one of those the other day, a prelude drove away from me and I had to cover my ears it was so gawdawfully loud and raspy that I almost threw my philosophy book at his car.

uh yeah, carbon hoods aren't subjected to the heat that a muffler would. They've got heat shielding under the carbon. I believe at the temps that exhaust gasses reach, even at the back is high enough to ignite the carbon. Yes, carbon fiber is both flammable and electrically conductive.

I think either one of those mufflers should come with a mounting bracket (made of steel) so that the muffler shop can weld hangars to the bracket, then the bracket would hold the muffler like a nitrous bottle bracket does... IMO it kind of looks weird like that. If you're looking for sound, these will give you sound - too much of it, from my experience. I have one for my car when I hit the track, but on the streets I swap back to a regular muffler. And the only reason why I have a straight-thru muffler is because I'm about $800 away from going turbo.

At first you may think these mufflers will sound really cool, but for example, how many of "them Honda boys" car's with loud *ss mufflers actually go fast? If you can live with the constant drone of exhaust muffling out your stereo and causing a buzz in your ears when you get out of your car, then more power to you.

If the weight is a serious issue for you then your mindset must be performance-oriented. If so, I'd pass on either of your choices and I'd go stainless, mandrel bent, cat-back.

Then again I can see how a $35 muffler on Ebay could be tempting. If it's all for looks/sound, I'd say to pick whichever looks better to you. Just remember the bracket thing I explained, and get ready for some tickets from Ole' Smokey if you live in the Los Angeles area =(
