Ok, I happen to know a guy whos kind of high up in a popular exhaust company (I wont say which one for forum policy reasons). A little while back they started to offer cat-back Titanium Exhaust systems for various Imports including the 240SX 89 all the way up to 98 I believe.

BUT they quickly pulled the 240SX applications because of lack of interest. However when they released this system it was marketed more towards show cars.

I have GREAT respect for the guy that I know who works for this company but I think he didn't get the 240 exhaust to the right audience.

Personally I think a full cat-back exhaust that weighs less than 20lbs and gives a 10hp gain through the better part of the power band is a pretty darn good exhaust

and I've been trying to get him to bring it back but he says that he cant do it unless their is a demand..and they are willing to pay the price since Titainum isn't cheap.

So I pose a question to the 240 enthusiasts here in NICO land.. what do you think is a fair price for a titainum cat-back exhaust?

What is a fair price, or what would I be willing to pay?

I wouldn't be willing to pay a fair price for a titanium cat back.

If it's around 600$ it'll probably sell. Anything over that is a different market.

20lbs is heavy....

if its 6-11lbs then ill think about it and cheaper/good quality vs the rest of the aftermarket.

i think greddy/jic would be the cheapest full titanium exhausts out there around 700bucks. so it would have to beat that by a margin because we trust those companies.

if anyone could make a 1 piece exhaust for srs/kas from downpipe-muffler thatll be nice at a reasonable price side mounted.

Doubt it.

Prolly more like 15 - 17.

Typical aftermarket exhausts weigh about 25 lbs.

Titanium is only about 30% lighter than steel.

If they are SS they weigh around 25, but possibly more depending if you get an N1 style muffler or like a Magnaflow syle muffler. My custom mild steel exhaust weighs at least 35 lbs. But I wouldn't wanna shave off 15lbs or so at a cost of 650 bucks or more. I'd rather lose some weight myself titanium is a great material to make the exhaust of since it very light AND durable and doesn't rust, but the price... Again to me having a muffler shop custom make me my piping is much better of a deal than Apexi or reddy or anyone selling me the exact same thing for 4 times the money. Titanium woudl be more for peoepl who are goign all out and need every bit of weight loss they can get. Mostly NA peeps then. Or weight freaks.I'd pay $600 for it, shipped. thats just me IF I wanted one.

Well its UNDER 20lbs..I just used 20 as a benchmark..but it comes in way under 20.

I dont know the exact weight because they have different applications..but I know some of them were about 6lbs.

And the thickness of the titainium is 1mm.

They dyno tested a 2.25 diameter 240 application against an Apex 3.5 diameter application on a SR20'ed S14 and the horsepower gain was idential but the exhaust in question gained +4lb of torque over the Apex exhaust.

Does this change any ones opinion or is everyone still in the 600-650 range?

I think I know what company you are talking about (I work for a master distributor of lots of companies), and from conversations with VPs at the company I think you are talking about, ALL of thier Ti kits are being discontinued due to lack of interest. The VP of marketing in that company was a tool really into "the fast and furious" kinds of cars(He owns a Skline I believe) , now he's into Bimmers and the Euro market.

I don't even think they ever produced an S13/S14 Ti exhaust, mostly just STis, EVOs, S2K, and RX8s.

3 kg's is bull. Thats less than 7 lbs for an exhaust that is about 6' long with a muffler and hangers.

"as little as 10 lbs." thats off the Greddy website and it's also talking about all the exhausts they make which include cars like FD's

Actually they have produced a few S13/S14 Ti exhausts, one went on Neil Tjin's show S14 another went to Dai Yoshihara and there were a few others that were given as sponsorship to a few other show cars.

That was kind of my point as to why they probably didn't have much interest..I think it would have been better if they put more promotion behind more pro-drifers.

As far as the VP of marketing for this company..a lot of people really have him all wrong as far as him just wanting to build "fast and furious" style cars.

BUT, thats not the focus of this topic..really Im just trying to see if there is enough interest among the more performance oriented crowd to bring this product back.

the Greddy system is cool but its over a grand I know for a fact that the company in question in this topic could offer it for less than that

"NIS 240SX (Turbo) 1995-98 80 116 10127500 $1,049.00"

That was taken from Greddy's website now the price there is the List price so maybe some other shop is offering the exhaust for less than the list price.

But then you have to think..the company in question here is just like GReddy they mainly sell to distributors..so if greddy's list is a grand and it goes in the shops for 750...that could mean that if the other company's exhaust list price is UNDER a grand then the shops could offer it at a lower price than the Greddy model
