Thinking of buying a 4x4 Titan, any thing i should look out for 04-06 . I will be buying one from a private party . any recalls ? How bad is the gas mileage ? I know its a v8 it cant be worse than my el camino . Are you titan owners happy ??

Cost is obviously a factor. Known items are the brakes, seats and rear axle. Front brakes are prone to judder. They have an updated version that uses thicker halves withing the same overall rotor thickness, which has improved it, but some are still having issues. There is also an issue with the seats squeeking and rocking side to side, but there is a TSB for this on the manual seats. No TSB for the power seats, though the problem exists, but is an easy fix. From my understanding, the rear diff problem is corrected for the 07 model, and speculation that some of the later 06 models got the new part as well. My understanding is the main problem is with the spider gears.

I'd expect 12-18 mpg depending on how you drive and road conditions. Less mpg obviously when you are towing.

Stay away from 04. 05 brought in pwr sliding rear window, assist tailgate, and a few smaller things.

06 changed the climate controls - nicer in my opinion.

I have no complaints about my 2004. Had the brake work done and that was it.

I hope your luck holds out! I lemon law'd my '04 after 4 trips in for brakes, pass seat replaced, heater controls serviced, and I was starting to hear a clunk in the rearend when my window wouldn't go up for about 3 minutes... I was trying to put em up because it had started to rain. So I had had enough of that! Nissan USA's final offer to pay me off to just keep it was $4000 and getting to go to the front of the line for the brake fix... which I later found out wasn't even "out" yet. Anyways, 3 days after turning in the '04 I bought my current '05. I had it in for the brake fix at about 4000 miles and she has been a peach ever since!

It's always a crap shoot - new or used.

I am the local Nissan Dealer this moring to get my Xterra in for service and while the service guys are getting started on the paper work a fellow drives into the service bay with a 2006 Crew Cab Titan. He had a lift kit, 20" rims and Yokohama skins. Nice looking truck. I even said as much to the owner.

His reply:

You don't want this truck. I broke a shackle on the passanger side leaf pack, grenaded the front differential and when the shackle broke the leaf spring rebounded under the deck and split it open like a potato chip bag. Sure enough the shackle suffered severe metal fatigue and it split the box seam behind the rear wheel well. Not a pretty picture.

He had a 700 pound quad in the back when it happened, which he is quite certain expedited the breakage. The fellow was hunting and traveling in on some very rough roads but regardless, this should not have happened. Even the dealer has no record of such an incident on file.

Weird....that's all I have to say about that.

The lift kit might be to blame.
