After driving a 2002 Dodge Ram for 1100 miles to south Texas, I like the Ram a lot.

I also like GMT400 pickups, but finding a Silverado/Sierra of that era in decent shape is a challenge.

I like the 90s and current Rams better than the '02 inbetween model, but they were still decent trucks. I'd rather have a Titan or F150 (or Mark LT) than an '02 Ram though. The 5.9 is relatively gutless but it sounds great, is super easy and cheap to work on, and is still up to a lot of work. My dad's '97 Ram has been a fantastic truck that gets used for real-truck work and offroading regularly without complaint. It doesn't feel like a 14 year old truck at all.

I'm not racist, so I don't factor location of company headquarters into purchasing decisions.

My parent's 02 Ram is With right about 100k, the A/C is broken, the oil pump is acting up, it has a stumbling idle, and the dash has two huge cracks. It's not like they mistreat the thing either, it got timely service... It's just a piece of s***. That generation of Ram would be off my list.

I wouldn't go anywhere near a Ram personally, unless it had a Cummins in it. I've rarely seen one that is worth a crap after 100k unless somebody was VERY meticulous with it, even then the transmissions suck balls.

I agree with the F150 idea, we had F150's at my old job in GA. It was a Kenworth dealership and we had to haul ridiculously heavy loads in them almost daily, we beat them to death and they just wouldn't die. They kept every truck until 150,000mi too, not a one of them had a single major failure, and they all had the 4.2L V6 in them. I like the 5.4L F150's the best but the 4.2L V6 is a workhorse for sure.

I also had an '06 F250 with the 5.4L V8 in it while I was there too, that was a damn strong truck. I could haul anything in that truck and it was unbelievably comfortable too.

I'd take a look at full sizes though while you're at it, honestly for the small difference in fuel mileage, you can't really go wrong. You get more hauling capability, power, and you can buy an Extended Cab that is roomy enough to put people in. It's still not as roomy as a crew cab but the ext cab full sizes are still not bad.

Chevy S10 Crew Cab - They only made them for the last couple of years of the S10, comes with the 4.3L V6 though and if taken care of it'll run forever.
LIES!!!! ive got a 2000 GMC Sonoma with the 4.3 V6, which is the same thing as an S10 just rebadged. its a huge pile of s***, trust me. gone through a transmission already and the one in there now is on the way out as we speak, idles rough, cheep a** plastic parts break with little effort (my seats havnt reclined in a couple years), rattling from behind the dash that i still havnt pinpointed, windows are trippin (dont like to roll down on hot days), A/C took a crap a while ago, and vibration issues from the driveshaft (if it has the 2 piece driveshaft).

The Dodge Rams have horrendous transmissions, especially the ones with the 5.9L Cummins with the automatic transmissions. The mid to late 90's Rams also had terrible paint. I'm not a fan of the F150's even the 4.6L Triton's, the interior build quality is garbage there were a couple of years there where the paint is just as awful as the Dodge Ram's. The F250/350's are some of my favorite trucks, especially the 99 - 03 MY's, they have an aggressive look to them, still had the 7.3L Powerstrokes as an option (as well as a V10) and there interiors are that bad even in base model. If you are looking for a truck to do some serious work with or haul your car (or a trailer of riding lawn mowers) you can't get a better truck, especially if you can do the transmission swap to the Allison transmission. Plus since you live in the NE you can throw a plow on it in the winter and make some serious money with it. Again, I'm a huge fan of diesel trucks, particularly the 12 valve 5.9L Cummins and the 7.3L Powerstrokes.

i bet it tastes good.
Urabus GodofTraction wrote:Example: A V6 03 Frontier or Tacoma is rated at 5,000lb for towing. The V6 F-150 can do 5200/5700 depending on gearing (all examples are 4x2). That little bit makes a HUGE difference in towing even below the limit
towing capabilities don't mean squat to me. i tow nothing.
