This has probably been asked before, but I can't find anything at the moment.I have an 02 Pathfinder, and there is an opportunity to pick up a new U.S. 2008 Xterra, for close to $10k less than what I would have to pay for a new one in Canada.I like the new Xterra's a whole lot more than the new Pathfinders, so I'm looking for some input into just how good/bad these trucks are. Is there anything I need to know before making a decision?I love my Pathfinder, and it has been absolutely trouble free, but the Kms. are getting up there, so that's why I'm thinking of changing my ride. Thanks .

Aside from the lack of a true ladder frame, the drivetrain in your Pathy is better than the new X.

The new engine and transmissions are nice. The Tcase in a 4x4 is now operated by a heater knob rather than a real shifter, and the axles are inferior to what you have in your pathfinder.

That said, for normal driving, you'll be fine. If you start getting into hardcore 4x4'ing, you'll find the limits of the aluminum housing R180 front axle. Many have been know to split in two under the stresses of serious trail use. The iron R200A in the front of your Pathy (assuming it's 4x4) is much stronger.

Thanks for the input.I don't do any off-roading, but I use the 4X4 a lot in the winter. I also use my truck for work (handyman/contractor), so I usually carry a load.We have brutal winters as you can expect here in the great white north, so I want something that won't break.I have to admit, my Pathy has been bullet proof so far. The AWD and full time 4WD have worked flawlessly. It gives me peace of mind, so I have to think about what you said. Thanks again.
