I dont have enough money for new rims but i need the tires (the ones on now are bald, no traction when wet) I hav the original stock ones on now, i was wondering about getting some tires that are lower profile than the original, does anyone have any suggestions???, i have to mount them on the one the original stock wheels

Try going to this link, and download the tire size comparator program. It's free and safe.I got wind of this little program from the tire guy at Costco. They use it there. It's simple and very useful.http://cat.cc/tiresize.htm

Do not run 195/50s on a car that originally had 195/60s, your ratio would be all wrong and your speedo and odo will be off considerably.

Would have thought it was obvious or at least a quick search on wikipedia...

hint: If you have the circumference of the wheel and you know how many turns the wheel's doing per second..... you can work out how far you have gone in that second.

The instruments on the car are calibrated to a specific circumference for the drive whees/tires. They measure the number of rotations of the wheels and multiply it by the circumference to determine speed and distance.

Use a tire size calculator and find out. Miata.net has a good one. Google "tire size calculator."

I'm pretty sure 205 or 215/40/17s are close to stock diameter for a 1.8. If you're going wider, you'll have to lower the middle number. Again, use the calculator to help you.
