I'm new to the drifting scene and just bought a s13. Tires are going bald and I was wondering what kind of tires I should get? I want something that grabs and won't fishtail when I shift. The car came with some fake a*s federal and it fishtails whenever I shift. Especially from 1st to 2nd. Should i go with some Bridgestones.

Thanks for those who reply.

um unless you are loaded, most people get used 15" crappy tires from tire places for very cheap, and run them on an extra set of rims, then have a setup for street, with some nicer tires and wheels. why would your car fishtail when you shift. Are you saying this happens when you are driving straight? Even if you are shifting hard enough to chirp, spin the tires when shifting, it should not fishtail. I think i kinda answered the drift tires ?, so for street, everyday tires, it depends. What is your budget? there are alot of good tires out there, but for maximum performance, you sacrifice life of the tires and ride quality. I use yoko es100's and love them. They are about 100 a tire, which isnt too bad. I think the general reccomendation for best tire as far as grip and handling would be autocross type tires, like the falcan azensi rt615. Give us some more info though, budget, rim size, intentions for car, etc

Instead of chirping, the tires keeps on spinning when I throw from first gear to second. The spinning of the tires causes the car fishtail to the right and then catches grip again. This happens when I'm pushing my car traveling in a straight direction. About the tires I just want to get something that is affordable($70-$80 each) and grips on good.

thanks.

When I go to 240 meets on track days and stuff like that to screw round and try to get better at drifting I go to tire places and pick up used tires for about $35-$50 a pop. You only need the back two to be used tires since you can use the good ones up front. I have toyo proxies T1S's right now but before I ran those Cooper Zeons which you can pick up for about $80 a piece or so. They are really good for daily driving street for the price and have a 120mph speed rating which fits most of us 240 guys perfectly!

I think in the New Tire FAQ in the Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension forum someone gave reviews on a lot of different tires. Try checking that out. And yeah for drift practice just get some used - at the shop I work at used tires are only $10 a piece.
