I have an '82 280ZX with 98K I drove new off the showroom floor. It has always driven as if on rails. Lately it has started to wander at speeds of 40-70mph. It's a little like what the old guys used to call "fishtailing". I replaced the 205/70/14 BF Goodrich with 215/60/14 Yokohomas and it improved handling only slightly, however I now have a much better ride. Any thoughts? Tires?, rims?, struts?, etc.? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

might be time to change your bushings. i changed my with energy polyurathane bushings and it was big inprovment. if your car is alot more bouncy or too soft of a ride it could be your struts.. if youve never changed your struts since youve had the car you prolly need to do it soon. worn out rear struts could give you that fishtailing feel if you do a quick turn..

struts, springs, bushings would all help you out big time if the parts are original

I'd be looking from slop in the bushings but strongly suspecting the struts/shocks

Thanks everyone. Hadn't even considered the bushings. Rear struts were replaced a while back. It's off to the bushing store. icice9...gorgeous ZX! Mine is also exceptional, but maybe not quite like yours.

ouch!, I look for an quality rebuilt rack, I got one for my z31 years ago for less then half the standard replacement cost and the tie rod ends are cheap then you just need to bolt it all on and get a $60 alignment, you could save yourself a few hundred dollars if your not afraid of a little datsun grease,a dn be sure you only use ATF in the power steering!
