hey repo this might help you try to explain take 2 wheels barrows one with a under inflated tire and one normally inflated when pushing a load with the underinflated tire you strain and struggle to push it and when you push a load with the one that has the normally inflatted tire it pushes with no problem

now the under inflatted one cause you to use more force so in car you=engine and so the engine would work harder burning more gas

Good call Red. That's a very good practical explanation of what I'm trying to explain. Plus, tires that are underinflated cannot work the way they were designed. It's one of the most important maintenance items there is and one of the most often overlooked, IMO.

ok for ****s and giggles I went out and got new rims. 16x7 and wrapped 225/50 zr16 Bridgestone Potenzas on them. Orginally there were 15x7 195/60 h8? 15's . The steel wheels with tires were 34lbs a piece. the new wheels with tires are 32.5 lbs a piece

It is remarkable the difference in handling... off the line the car feels a little more sluggish, but that is probably just in my head. Around corners it is like driving a different car.... much more confident feel.... worth every penny; IMO.

Go to http://www.tirerack.com. They sell mad cheap. I have Yokohama Parada spec 2s on my 240. They have great traction on wet and dry land. Definetly one of the best tires out there. They go for bout $104 each including shipping.

I bought some rather cheap tires, Yokohama AVS ES100 and they are a pretty decent tire for only $72 or so a tire. They have pretty good stright-line dry traction, as well as good stick in the corners. In the cold they don't stick very well though. As for the wider tires being a detriment to speed, wider tires have create more drag. So, the coefficient of drag for a vehicle goes up with wider tires. This really doesn't affect acceleration very much, but top speed will be reduced, although it will still be above the governor so who really cares.

The thing that erks me is that the SE rims are a 6.5" not a 7" as you and others stated. Common guys hehe

Anyway I have the 225/50/16 712's on my 16x6.5" se rims. While not the best tire out there definately the best Ive owned in the low cost high performance range. They have great wet traction, and decent dry traction. My main gripe is that the sidewall is too soft.

This combined with the well known fact that once they get beyond theyre usable heat range they become really greasy, is my only downside. While I only autocross once a month or so and twice on these tires (ok total but im going again next weekend) they held up great. May not have warrented the fastest time for my car but when you can pound on them and show little wear, it is kinda cool.

Basically it is a high milage capable high performance tire. With the added miles come less grip and softer sidewalls.

BTW I wanted the KDW's over these. The price was just a little steeper, but the only reason I didnt get them was because my old tires were comming apart and I needed a decent tire quick. The KDW's are a better all around tire from what I hear, with a stiffer sidewall and nice large treadblocks.
