i'm going to be getting some FN01RCs in 17x8 this fall and now I'm looking at tires (in 225/45/17). Basically, I'm torn between the Yok ES100 and teh Kumho MX. Most of the year, my car is at school in Atlanta so I don't drive it too much, but I like to hit the mountain roads and hopefully get into autoX a little. It rains a lot here so I need decent rain traction in case I'm out fishing or something in the mountains and it starts raining...I don't wanna get stranded. On the same token, I'm on a budget and I drive to/from Chicago several times a year, so treadwear is a concern as well. I'd love the MXs but the price and some of the horror stories I've heard about them blowing for no reason are scaring me. Would I be better off just getting the ES100s?

you cant get some decent all around tires for your FN's, and then put some nice grippy tires on your stock wheels for racing/mountain roads?

MX are fine tires.

We have a lot of experience with the MX, and I can tell you that they won't just blow for no reason. These are a noticable step up in both wet and dry traction, as well as having lower road noise than the ES100. Fear not, the MX is a great choice.

Too expensive :( If I had that much money, I'd just get some S03 pole positions or something like that

take your mahn sechs out of my forums.

the Es-100 is a great tire, but its not..uhm...as Mark found "heat stable"...they get greasy with more heat, but grip better in cold conditions than the MX(the MX uses a more sticky, but higher-temp range carbon compound..the ES is a silica/carbon blend)

anyways...I prefer the yokohama on a street car, but the MX would fare better in dry cornering, esspecially on extended runs.

myself?

soon to be running either KD's or a048R.-chet

*shrug* can you USE the MX's..? keep in mind, the es-100 is a stick tire, no doubt...the wquestion is can you keep the tire heated or at its stickiest with the MX?

I'd get the es-100's just because I like yokohama more..why not get the AVS sport?-chet
