Kumho Ecsta712's:

They are very good tires for the price.Wont last as long as others long but Q45tech tested them hard and they held up.They wont last as long as say Michelins but then again they are half price and the 245/45-ZR-17 series in an expensive size.

My brother has beat the hell out of a set of 712's. They're still kickin'. Good tires from what I've seen and definitely a lot cheaper than Michelins. Not that you could go wrong with Michelins.

dude kumho R teh suck.

they're cheap tire in a expensive size. something gotta give. they use a hard compound(yeah I dont wnana hear any 'ITS Z RATED!' bull**** either...), and their "roundness" sucks ***..... too much bad karma against kumho....I'lls tick to those 2 main points. if you want a cheap tire in that expensive 17" or 17" size..well....go ahead, but I say "if you cant afford the good tires to go with the rims, you shouldnt have bought the rims!"

best bet for a good high-po-tire for the money would be something like a yokohama AVS ES100 or Parada(depending on the size)....

I work at a tire place (NTB) I deal with tires day in, day out....its all I do....gimmeyour size and I can tell you what tires you should look at based on the following:1. size2. price range3. how agressive do you drive?4. put these in descending order(most important first)-ride quality (softness, comfort, noise..)-dry grip-wet grip-longitivity(how long it will last)

get those straight, I can recomend you a tire. -chet(spelling errors out the wazoo, but I bet you guys got the point)

I know that......hence the hard compound, but dont tell me its soft because its a Z rating.....(maybe you were telling someone else...)

oh well, all in all, best bang for buck:yokohama parada sepc-2 or AVS es-100nitto nt-555pirelli p7000

those would be my top 3 "best for the money" picks...-chet

Z rated tires can be either soft or hard.

The rating is more a function of the quality and construction of the tires carcass than the softness or hardness of the rubber.

It may be a bit easier to make a Z rated w/ a harder compound but most cases Z ratings are on performance tires which tend to be softer of course.

Personally I would take the Kumhos over the p7000. Based on info from TireRack, the Kumho is rated as a better tire as well. The parada spec-2 is a great tire if you can find it in the size you need. As for the Nittos, I have no experience with them. For the money, Kumhos are a fantastic tire. Spend an extra $20 a tire and you can have a better tire, but that holds true for just about everything. Of course, with more stickiness comes lower tread-life, but that should be a given.

"info from tire rack"...

dude I order from them all the time. kumhos are NOT the great thing everoyn thinks they are...sure they're great if its the first set of cheap Z-rates you got...but the p7000's handle much better....I mean...MUCH BETTER. esppecially at the limit...and they're round...you know...like a tire should be.

and yeah, Im biased by having to deal with kumho ride complaint **** from people all day "I got a jaguar/mercedes/audi/civic si, and my car vibes and rides rough"

well sure enough we take the ****ing kumhos off and spin them...hop like crazy on the ballancer....

but hey, if they work for you...great...but I;'d wager its because you've never had experiance with the other tires like the p7000. and more stickyness does not necesarily sacrafice treadlife in the traditional sense, you can get a grippier longer lasting tire...

but if you waat a soft compound(say for cooler climates), you will give up a lot of treadlife. michelins pilot sport A/S is a great example of a sticky all season tire that lasts a long time(although an expensive one) if the company knows how to manipulate the compounds well enough that it uses in the tires, you cna get a real well gripping decent life tire...but hey, thats why you pay the extra 20 dollars a tire.

-chetwow long post, just got back from work, put on a set of yokohama ES100 onto a m3, guy loves them.
