Silly question here but I am too lazy to try and go through all the threads....I have a 04 G35x with 215 55 17 wheels. I have toyo garrit winters on now and I will be buying a new set of all season performance at the end of next month. What other size tires can I put on apart from the 17's with no mods?

There are tons of threads about this. Laziness will be your downfall.

Go look a little bit - maybe you'll find another thread on the way that will help you in the future.

tires or rims?

I put 275/40/17 on my G for the track front and rear. You need aftermarket rims with lots of back spacing and offset to mount 275 on the front.

The stock rims are 17x7 or 17x7.5 but you should be able to mount a 245/50/17 or 235/45/17 either way. If you have 17x7.5 rims you should be able to mount a 245/45/17 front and rear. 245 is the widest tire for the front with the stock rims. 275 is the widest for the rear but you need a 17x9" rims.

I need tires...

i figure since I have a dedicated set of winters, I now need a dedicated set of all season high performance (I don't want to go just performance summer because chances are, I'll be driving on them from mid april till mid october and therefore they'll be exposed to cold weather.) Anyhow, since that'll put me in the neighborhood of at least $800+ I really don't intend on shelling out more $$$ for wheels right now since I already spent some on steel wheels for the winter.

So the stock rims are 215 55 17...and you say I can buy tires as big as 245 50 17??

The largest I've ever seen on a car have been the 235/50's with the stock 17" rims... minus any mods to the assembly. You can, of course, go larger, but then you need to add spacers and other mods to make it fit. With the stock rims alone, 235/50's may be your best bet. Keep in mind that the wheel well will not be the limiting factor, but the edge of the control arm (?) that sits above the front tire will be. Take you fingers and run them between your current tire and the metal piece and you'll see that you have about .75 inches of space--- this is all you have to work with on tire sizing. The 245/50's will likely require spacers or other mods-- also, 245's may look like truck tires after awhile. Finally, a good garage may not put the 245/50 as is, recognizing the potential dangers and problems it may bring.

Good luck and hope this helps!
