So I'm looking to pick up a pair of wheels for my Q (y33) and I was browsing with tirerack's selection tool. I guess my question is should I trust it? I don't feel comfortable pulling the trigger on anything unless I know all the facts. The wheels that popped up are 19 x 8.5 and I threw on some 45 series rubber. http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_garage/ ... ack+Accent

Has anyone bought wheels using the tool or do you guys usually just spec out what you want?

I was able to find this tool which should help me find out what I need. I did some searching but I couldn't track down the stock specs on the 2000 touring wheels.

I'm not really a wheel guy so any help is appreciated.

I have some OZ Racing Superleggera 8.5x18 (now Ultraleggera) ET35 with 245/45-18 PSS. I have run other tires in that size and 255/40-18 PS2.

I am on Eibachs, and the tire is very close to the strut. ET30 would probably be ideal, but I have seen rubbing on Teins at ET25.

Email me if you have more questions as my presence here is sporadic.

As a side note, the widest best fitting wheels I can run on my BMW135i are also 8.5x18 ET45, and they are just about as close to the strut with 235/40-18 on them. Probably about 3mm-5mm in both cases.

Before you buy new wheels off Tire Rack you should consider finding some 3rd gen Q45 or FX35/45 rims. You can go 18" or 20" on the FX rims and you know they will fit. I know the OZ rims are good quality, but my experience with aftermarket rims has been that they eventually don't balance all that well. But these have a good reputation.

As for the Rack, don't trust anything off their website. Call their 800 number and talk with them. Their guys (never have ever spoken to a woman there) really know their stuff and I would trust much more speaking to them about it live. I think the 245/45 18 is a good size. I made the mistake of running 35 series on my M45 rims and I managed to put a small bend into one of them. I run XL load rating (strongly consider getting XL load rating tires) on the 40 series i have on there now, cannot fit 45 series with lowering and 19" rims.
