Post

Hello,

I'm new to the forum.

I own a 2002 Infiniti QX4 that I love very much!

I was wondering if anybody else have this problem.

I am running on sets of Bridgestones, but I am not too sure which ones.

They seem to be wearing out quite a bit, I have been running on them for quite some time. The front two wheels are totally out of tread, but on the sides and not the middle. What could be wrong? I have been running with the same rear wheels for the same amount of time and it isn't even that bad.

I am thinking about getting a brand new set of rubber and a wheel alignment done. What do you guys suggest for new rubbers? I'm trying to keep it the stock size as I'm on stock alloy wheels. I want something that is cheap, but last long and good in "all weather".

Thanks!

Welcome to nico forum

My guess to your tire tread issue is that you didn't rotate your tire every 10-15k. Instead of buying another pair of tires, just rotate it and drive on it a bit. If it wears the evenly keep it until it gets bald or if it doesn't just grab a set of new ones.

When both sides of the tread are balding but the middle is fine, 9 times out of 10 it means the tire is underinflated. If the pressure is fine, then an alignment is due. Usually a bad alignment results in wear on just one side, or feathering of the treads, but anything can happen.

How's the pressure in the tires? And do you feel the QX4 pulling to one side all the time, especially at high speeds?

Have to agree with Jon on this one.The fronts will wear quicker than the rears. The fronts will also wear on the outside more than the inside (seems logical to me anyway). If the wear is even on the fronts, and the truck goes straight when you let go of the wheel (no pulling), then your alignment is probably OK.FYI: My '02 Pathy has almost 200,000 Kms on it now, and it still goes straight, and the tire wear is even. I've never had it aligned.Rotating the tires is a must if you want to get maximum life out of them.As for the best tires, I suggest doing a search. There have been many blogs on this subject.

Even with proper inflation (30psi) the outsides of the front will wear quicker.

If both sides are wearing and the middle isn't, your tires are under inflated. The middle wears out, they are over inflated.

I keep out OE Bridgeston Duelers (crappy tire) at 33psi. Yes, that is 3psi over the door sticker, but most tire pressures are selected for comfort and 10% over isn't going to destroy the tires any faster.

The middle of my tires (25,000 miles) has slightly less tread detail then the the next ribs out, but again, nothing horrible.

The PF remains mostly unladen so stock pressures should be fine. If you tow or carry heavy loads (4 people + gear), you might want to bump up the pressures to 35-38 depending on the load especially in the rear if you are towing near max weight.

However, once you are done with the heavy hauling, reduce your pressures to save the middle of the tread.

Oh, and always take tire pressures when the tire is cold. Never after lots of driving(5+ miles) or if it is sitting directly in the sun.

Next tire for us wil be the Nokian WRs, an extreme duty all season tire.

thanks for the quick reply. I don't think it has been rotated rofl.

I will get on that right away I guess.

But I still think I will probably get a new set by next winter for sure, I don't feel safe lmao!
