I have a red top with BPU and brand new 205/55/15 dunlop fm901 tires. good all around tire but...I can't get traction.

I'm going with F 225/50/16 and R 245/45/16 now.

for camber I have eibach bolts on the front and slotted upper control arms on the rear. budget... but works

You guys do know that wider tires wont give you a larger contact patch right? ;) It's all about compound and tread design.

You know your wrong right? A 275 tire on a 10" wheel will give you a bigger contact patch then some 195 tires on a 6" wheel if they're the same compound and tread design....think about it...

If you are not going with a wider rim size, I would stick with the 205/55-15. That's the key. No one is going to dispute the fact that a 10" wide rim with a wider tire/contact patch will give you better traction. That being said, if you are only running a 6" wide stock rim, there's no benefit going wider on the tire. The best bets for handling and wear in that size would be the Yokohama AVS ES100 or the Bridgestone Potenza RE750.

Well I ordered a set of the falken ziex v-rated in the 205 size i was running before. Will my camber of 1.7 rear 1.3 front kill these tires? What tire pressures have yall had the best sucess wit?

you ar so gonna make me regulate on your *** if you dont do some searching before saying that. tell you what, YOU think about it. what happens to a contact patch as the tire gets wider? the patch gets WIDER...not bigger, WIDER....search man. please search, i;ve discussed this en infinum allong with c-kwick, grant, nils, and smithsr.....and even q45tech....

a 205-55-16 does have a long contact patch, which benifits ride quality, but lateral grip suffers a bit because it lacks enough width to be sufficiently stable in a turn. you can easily fir a 225-50-16 on the stock wheels, but a 245-45-16 on stock rims is far to wide for the bead to seat properly.

I would try out some yokohama avs ES_100's, falken zeix 512, and if money isnt an option, you could even get michelin pilot sports A/S tires, which would fufill your criterion the best.

if you havent lowered your car over 1.2" you shouldnt(depending on the car) need a camber kit, the stock factory eccentric bolts should do fine.-chet

Your comment was very general, and i didn't notice who made it at the time...its my understanding that if the contact patch is 1"x6" on tire A (say 215) and the tire patch on a wider tire, tire B (say 275) is 1"x9" (each to they're respected rim) then not only is tire B's contact patch wider it is also "bigger" to my understanding of the term...

Either way, you explination was unknown to me and i just learned something new...but i took your comment more as a general one rather one directed at his question...anyway, i've learned a lot from your posts in the past and will no doubt continue to...sorry for being so abrupt...

I know the guys with deep pockets are gonna say they're ghetto lol, but i just put a set of Kumho Ecsta MX tires on my car in 225/50/16 and so far i can say they ROCK! My only complaint is noise (sounds like there's a mosquito in your ear when your on the highway) but they stick damn good and let you know when your at the limit.

I really like the Kumho MX as well. For price vs. performance, they are easily in the top three tires in my experience. It has some noise issues on groved concrete due to the directional tread design but for the price.... We all have our favorites and some tires do not do as well on certain types of cars depending on the suspension. I tend to enjoy tires that give you a lot of feedback when pushed to the limit (and sometimes beyond) :D The MX is a very forgiving tire for the most part.

note: the 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 will be going on 16x7.5 and 16x8 respectively.

right now, asymetrico...old skool. :) noisy, clold-spotting, but awesome for abuse because of its ability to take excessive heat....

:)

I will be running corsas though for race tires, and maybe a set of rosso for a street set.-chet

that sounds about right! i went from a 225-50-16 to a 205-55-16 and am noticing that difference in lateral grip.

as for the camber kit:

Quote »if you havent lowered your car over 1.2" you shouldnt(depending on the car) need a camber kit, the stock factory eccentric bolts should do fine.[/quote]

i opted with the sportlines and so a camber correction is something that i definitely need to take care of (especially for the rear) sometime in the near future.
