Bought the five spoke q45T 17x7.5 wheels. Looking for tire suggestions please. I was thinking of the OEM 215-55 VR17 form the 2000 q45T. I don't want to go too radical. I like a low key look. Trying to not attract too much attention from Johnny Law. I know it's hard to avoid attention in a big black 120+mph (only as high as I've gotten it) missle, but... Any comments would be appreciated

thanks

I think you want a 245/45/17, 235's might fit, but opinions have them as creating too harsh of a ride, and I don't think 255's would fit the 7.5 width.

<just watch the load rating>

245/45/17.

Very popular, proper load rating, and nice appearance.

245/45-17 is a good fit. Here is a link to an old post of mine that as a bunch of possible tire options for a Q. Look about 5 or 6 posts down on the second page.

245/45-17 is the consensus size for that wheel.

Decent tire selection available too.

All other 17 inch sizes, have more cons than pros vs this size IMO.

Fred..:)

255/45/17 are awesome on 8" rims.

The 245/45/17 are awesome on 7 and 7.5" rims.

Also, this is a Mustang GT tire size, so there are a lot of choices out there.

I have had great performance out of my Sumitomo HTR+ (Not sure if they come in the 245 size).

ok, i'll try the 245/45/17's. Now tire brands, Pirelli PZero? Yoko AVS db2? Maybe Falken Ziex? Or just go for the gusto and get Michelins?

Plenty more, up to $274 EACH

I've had the above mentioned BFG's (All Season) & Bridgestone Potenza RE's (Summer Performance), can't say that I noticed a big difference in everyday driving, but I may go back to true Performance and get some winter tires for the cold season.

Others will weigh in, as Jeff already did, he likes his Sumitomo HTR+.

(NOTE: All these prices are from NICO sponsor - Tire Rack)

I just put a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on. INCREDIBLE tire. I had a long conversation with Luke at tire rack. His second choice was the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 (good price) I decided to just go for the best. Very pricey tire but WOW, ride, handling, turn in etc etc. And I was coming out of the XGTVs, which are also a good performance tire. And a super side benefit, they go GREAT in the snow! Look at the tread pattern on Tire Rack and it will appear why. An interesting side note came up with him as we discussed the Firestone SZ 50EP. That tire has got great reviews from many here, but it is a SUMMER tire. GREAT rain tire, virtually eliminates hydroplaning but if you get into some snow it won't work well. Again look at the tread pattern and it will become obvious. I put the michelins on 98 Q touring wheels 16x7 and went with 225/55x16. Only $172 ea in that size. Luke went berserk when I started talking about 245s or 255s. No way he convinced me without a 7 1/2 wide rim. He said they woud contribute to squirming and tramlining at those widths. Great to have these guys to call on for advice! And remember to ask for the NICO price!

If you want the best get the Michelins - more money but way worth it. I had the same tire as Q45Viper on my 98 touring rims -awesome. I purchased a set of 2003 350z rims, 17x7.5 - 225/50 fronts and 17x8 - 235/50 rear, with Potenza RE40's - I was so happy when I saw them cause they LOOK much better with the fatter rims. BUT - they handle WORSE than the Michelin's. I can't wait to wear these out and get my Pilots back. Only question is what sizes to get. I like the look of the fatter rear tires so I'm thinking 235 fronts, 245 rears or 235 fronts 255 rears, or 245 fronts 255 rears. Any suggestions / comments from those who have are appreciated...Thanks,Chaz

I've had no less than three different tires on my wife's Pathfinder, OE (whatevers) replaced by the dealer, Yokohama Geolanders, then I went for it & bought Michelin Cross Terrain SUV's 275/60/17.

WOW! I'll never buy anything but Michelin again, quiet, smooth, balanced out so well the tire guy called the other tire techs over to see the <lack> of weights required to balance, even on a 17x8 Enkei RT6 aftermarket wheel.

<*When*> I ever get my fvcking wheels from my contact, I'm going Pilot Sport A/S's, no question.

Another great tire for an SUV is the Goodyear Wrangler HP, this tire also got a huge thumbs up from Luke. I have a 01 Durango RT with no less than 48,000 miles and I am not at the wear bars yet. And I have been through a blizzard where I continualy had to drive in over 2 feet of unplowed snow for a week. The tires had about 35,000 on them at that point. With medium snow this year they are still going strong at the current mileage.

And don't forget my favorite: Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP. It is still available in a 245/45-17 rated ZR size (for now) for $162 at Tire Rack. This is the best tire I have ever used in 28 years of driving!

Not a snow tire, but it is outstanding in rain and dry. Customer rated number 1 out of all 45 "Ultra High Performance Summer" tires at Tire Rack.

This tire has been discontinued :( , but is still available for the moment!
